check out my audio build(in my profile), i used sirgcals idea, but modified the plans to my needs. I used two 10inch diamond audio subs, these sub had a 5.6~ mounting depth. I made it work and i love the sound!

I used 2 10" Kicker comps in a 97 TJ seat build. They sound really good, more then enough power and bass for this setup. Wired in parallel to get 2ohm load @ 420W. The airspace volume inside the box is less than ideal for these, but they sound great. I think they have around a 5" mounting depth requirement, but were very close due to the magnet cover design.
I added 1/2" spacers when mounting to ensure clearance. Link to pics below.

I went on amazon.com and picked up a Pioneer TSSW251 Shallow Mount 10 Inch 800 Watts Subwoofer. The thing hits great in a closed box. I modified mine to because I have passengers back there once and while and wanted more padding in the seat. The shallow sub is only 3.5 inchs deep so it allows you to make a smaller box. I also got the 800watt poineer amp to go with it. Really cheap threw amazon plus quick shipping.

this is where I mounted my amp.

you have a 2002 seat which is a lot bigger than the 03" seats so you wouldnt have a problem fitting some of the thicker slim subs in.

im using the pioneer 10" in mine. it hits hard

Any sub that will fit properly, and work on the alloted volume of the box, will work fine. I've lost track of the different combinations we've done. Everything from shallow Earthquake subs, to extended deep creative jobs, etc. Though it's been a while since I can't get out and work on them much anymore due to my MS (and I've been getting a lot of requests lately too...) but...

I will say I've wanted to do two 8W3v3's in the 97-02 large box. That's been one of the most impressive to date. I also want to do a trio of 6W3's. But again, the bank account won't let me right now. But so many subs out there will work. Go with what you like; that fits.

Nope. I ran the amp HARD for a while (hour or so) and put my hand on the fabric, it was a bit warm but nothing that would cause damage. The amp is a great fit for the sub so there isn't to much heat build up. Works great and its nice when the tops off because all you can see is a couple of black wires for power. And to be able to remove the seat faster with out having to screw around with the cables on the amp I just wired up some quick disco's on the bottom of the sub box as shown in lower pic.

Two 8-ohm versions of the 8W1v2 in parallel would show 4-ohms to the amp which offers 300W in said configuration. Perfect match.

SirGCal, I took a look at the plans on your site for the big in-seat box. With a mounting depth limit of 5" and a internal volume of .87 cubic feet, how do you think 2 10w1v2 subs would work out? Crutchfield's site shows .625 cubic feet per sub, which comes up a bit short (.38 cubic feet), but then he could take advantage of the 500 watts RMS @ 2 Ohms that the MRP-M500 puts out. The mounting depth is 4 7/16, so he should be fine there. Just thought I would pick your brain and offer up another suggestion.

Honestly, with that amp, and that box, and no concern for budget, I'd run two 8W3v3-4's. That would also let him get the 500W out of the amp and they'd also be happy in that box size. The 10's could fit, but they'd spike a bunch making it more of an SPL install than SQ. Polyfill could not make up that much difference but it would help.
