To those with CB Radios (in a TJ)

Im looking to put one in the jeep, since my jeep is no longer a DD I am taking the stereo and XM out of it and putting it in my new truck,

Just a couple questions

1) Do any of you have it mounted inside the dash where the stereo would be. And if so Which make and model CB do you have and what feedback do you have on it

2) Where did you mount your antenna and how big did you go, I dont want it to be dragging on trees and the ocasional parking garage when I do drive it around town, Also are the antenna removeable?

3) Where did you put your external speaker I have a manual transmission, I do have a Modified Poison Spyder Cage as well that I might be able to hook something up to

im installing a cb this weekend, HOPEFULLY! i ordered it so it should get here. if you are looking for some good prices id try walcottcb.com. i am planning on running a 4' firestix above my right-tail light. bought the bracket off quadratec for like $25. i think 4' shouldnt be that big of a deal, i mean they make 3' as well. i think with a 4' ill have maybe 8" abovethe soft-top. it may hit in garages, but they do make quick-disconnects for antennas so you should be fine with that. i plan on mounting my cb on the passenger side of the console near the shifter. out of my way and theres for the most part. hope that helps alittle... good luck.

my cb is mounted to the front top of the windsheild with a pretty neat bracket, so no help there, but for the antenna, my 3' (OR 4'?) firestick mounted to a bracket over the PASSENGER tailight works well, just fits in a garage or (drivethru) and easily unscrews if you need it to.

it depends. i mean if you mount it right they would have a hell of a time getting it out, but tuffy makes a nice console that locks it up. i only spent like $35 on my cb, which isnt a bad cb and im not too worried about someone taking it....

This is why I don't get into politics on the net....... I'd rather not start a flame war over who's right and who's wrong, but all I am going to say is that when Bush was re-elected, the next day I submitted my letter of resignation to my commanding officer in my National Guard unit.

Just my two cents

Can't help on the in-dash mounting as I used a length of C-channel (Super Strut) between the roll bars and mounted it over the rear-view mirror. It's out of the way. Went another step and wired an extension to the mic so it plugs into the dash, keeping the mic cable out of my mirror.

For the antenna, I bolted an old YJ spare tire stop to the tub and then bolted a 4' k40 whip to that. I routed the coax down the side then through passenger rear wheel well through a grommet and into the passenger tail light, drilled a hole in the bottom of the tail light, put a grommet in there, ran the coax out the bottom of the tail light, made a drip loop, and then to the antenna. No problems. The antenna is about 6 or 8 inches over the top of the soft-top. I'll post pictures later when I get home.

I mounted my 4' Wilson antenna just above the rear passenger tail light as well. I also added a medium spring so that the spring will flex rather than the fiberglass antenna snap when it comes in contact with low hanging things like branches and parking garages.

its a midland, check out walcottcb.com. its nice, i will rarely use it, but its nice for when i do hit the trails. my friend says midland is like a sub-division of cobra, its a cheaper cobra pretty much is what he told me. but whatever, it was $35 and it serves a purpose on the trail.

does having that spring make the antenna bounce around and hit stuff while you are driving or wheeling? and make noise??

Drove the truck today (snowing) so I'm going from memory ... I think it's a 4', half-a-foot or so higher than the hardtop.

FWIW- I use the same mounting bracket as battallion (minus the spring), but my antenna looks about a foot shorter. (maybe it's just the angle or the spring?)

I have my 4' CB antenna mounted to the center of my rear gate on a bracket that built.

It only sticks up above the soft top about 1' and it's easy to take off if I need to get into a parking garage or something like that. Pretty much any standard CB will fit in the spot where your stock radio was, I'm sure you can get a blank single space kit for EQs from any radio shop which would allow for a pretty clean istall if you cut it to match the CB. I run a Cobra 75 so I don't have anything to mount but I've thought about what you're talking about a few times, if I even install a tuffy console with the radio option I plan to do what you're saying.
