I don't have a dog in this fight, I just want to see kids banned from cars.

That is a stupid comment. He obviously wants it for gps and map use. Things we use already. I'm pretty sure he's not gonna be playing temple run on it. Ignorant.

OP I see it's not the 3G version so don't you need wifi to use GPs? How does that work if you don't have 3G. I am
Interested in this but I don't have the 3G version either.

OP pretty cool idea. Like stated above it's not like he's going to be playing games or watching YouTube videos while driving. It's no different from everyone else that uses a phone for gps or iPod while driving.

I can't speak for IOS, as I use Android, however I downloaded Sygic (navigation program) which downloads map data to your device. No need for network connection.

Have you tested it on a bumpy road/trail yet? Curious to see how well it holds up.

I'll have to take a look at those Go-Pro mounts.

Same here, just different app. There's tons of offline gps mapping software out there. It's great for when you're out wheeling where there's no signal.

OP, that things reminds me of Sgt Colbert 's laptop setup on Generation Kill, not too shabby.

Yes mine is NOT the 3G one. I have the iphone 5 that comes with Personal hotspot. A personal hotspot is basically a wifi signal coming from you own phone. My AT&T data plan allows me to use my hotspot with out charging me. Check you plan and you will be able to run it .....

how to get to Personal HotSpot:

Settings , Cellular , Personal Hotspot.

Yes i have taken it on bumpy roads. Just the other day I put in some anchors through the GoPro mount to make sure it wont fall out. I have used it many times while offroading and I love it! It swings so the passenger can map the trail from me.

Thatís a great mod you made there. I really enjoy seeing what others come up with on their own and how they went about doing it. Thereís something about making/building things for your Jeep that makes one proud; nice job.

I do have one negative comment though and that is about possible airbag deployment and serious injury or worse. Maybe itís just the angle of the pic but it looks like its in-line of the pass side bag.
