Sub locations

Is there anybody who has put a sub. in a different spot then behind the rear seats? Maybe using a low profile sub or anything if they are worth it? I'm really looking to fill in that missing low sound and Id hate to use up that space because I always use it to slide my hockey bag in and out.

JL Audio has a new sub the TW5. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pages.php?page_id=245

Suppose to be the same design as the older poineers crap thin subs, but this is way better. I was thinking of getting one of these and building a custom center console around the e-break and side firing this little guy towards the passanger or downfiring it. It's pretty neat and packs a punch.

Ive done a sony low profile sub under a customers seat in a tj before and it sounded pretty decent for what it was. Im not a huge sony fan but it was all we had that would fit their need. Its also kind of cool when the heavy bass rumbles shake your seat.

I've done in the rear seat (check out sirgcal.com for his build plans)

And now I run an 8 in the center console (I ditched the rear seat all together). The link below shows all the steps of my build.

The 8" console is probably the best low space idea. There some prints in this thread:

http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?t=723682

I've always thought you could build a false floor behind the driver's seat and put a nice shallow mount. It would probably have to be up-firing unless you don't mind it a little higher than the floor. I would def use a shallow for this b/c otherwise your enclosure will have to be much larger. Look in this thread for a false floor design:

It takes some work, but you can fit a 10" sub under the arm rest.

I put 2 12's in side a yj wrangler and build the box so that the subs faced down and the top was the same dimension of the trunk this way i didn't loose any room but 8" up and down. Allowing space for what ever you need to throw in the trunk, also a bit of cheap thin carpet makes the job look almost invisible.

inside the rear seat is the best way I've seen. I love my setup.

I don't see the best sound quality coming from an in-seat woofer. unless its something like a Kicker Solo-Baric free air type of sub.

It's meant to add missing low freqs to music for sound quality not to make the neighbors teeth rattle in their skulls at 3am. That said sirgcal had 3 8's (I think it was 8's it may have been 6.5's) in the seat box he built and it was award winning so something must have been right about the design.

I take my seat out so I can have some storage space come tonneau time, so I too went down the alternative thought route. Also you could consider putting an 8" into the floor. This would be better suited for a midbass speaker in a 3 way component setup but it is possible to give a little extra bass.

How do you figure that? It is still sealed in it's own enclosure. The enclosure is in the seat. I thought the solo-baric was made for small sealed enclosures. Small sealed enclosures can offer up great sound quality if paired with the correct speaker.
