Strange Brake Light Problem

Yesterday, I noticed a peculiar problem with the driver's side tail light on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When the headlights and running lights are off, the brake lights work as they should. However, when the headlights and such are on, the driver's side brake light doesn't work at all.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is? It baffles me, as I have never seen or had a problem like this before. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have this identical problem in my sons '04 GC! Were you able to fix it? If so what was your fix?

Ground wire or socket on the problem light. Likely
