It won't (uhhh... it did.. see later post) work. . Not in that box, the magnate is too large. I don't know why I listened to someone on here that hadn't actually bought. Stupid.

So... it's a NO GO on the bazooka.

See below....

Don't get discouraged yet...

2 things you can try...did you already carve away the interior plastic phlanges with a dremel? Also you can try making/buying a trim ring to give you a little depth. How much you need depends on how much depth you're lacking. This will mean you need to cut the grill slats and get the grill for some other 6.5" speaker.

I had to do this when I installed the elemental designs 7" and it worked fine in the end. I went with a simple piece of plywood (didn't need much depth) but you need to coat it with a resin or epoxy in case it gets wet.

I've trimmed for depth, that's not the issue. The problem is the width of the magnate. If you can picture the inside of the box, the part that mounts to the cd holder "indents" into the box quite a bit. If the mount wasn't tilted, it wouldn't be an issue. I think I just need raise the one side of the mount.

I just upgraded my subwoofer with the Kicker CVT65 (I left the stock amp in place for now and i'm using an Alpine IDA-x200 deck) it does what i want and picks up the low end stuff and holds up fine on the Freeway with my doors pulled off.

Just an fyi in case anyone else using an aftermarket deck and is going with a similar setup as mine...I found that on my 2001 TJ Sport...

- On the subwoofer, I only attached the Brown and Grey wires (BRown went to the Negative, Grey went to the Positive).
- The BLUE wire on the black wiring harness plug was the Subwoofer wire.
- On my apline deck, I attached the REMOTE and Power Antenna wire to this blue wire above and the amplifier is able to pick up power from it.

Actually now that I think about it...should I have coupled the Black and Red wire to the subwoofer so that the amp juices the subwoofer? I'm kindof an car audio noob

I think this will work. I just need to shim it slightly. In fact I don't think it will be an issue at all once it's raised up. Need to get some good silicone.

-Wiring is different depending on the year
-you only want to connect the remote wire to function the amp not BOTH the amp and power antennae wire. For anyone wanting the stock wiring diagram PM me your email and I will send it.

-As for using the kicker...it may be fine for you but it could sound better. Due to the wiring set-up you're not getting the most out of the factory amp. Down the road you may want to upgrade the amp. Re-read thru this thread you'll see we mention the power ratings of the factory amp.

Thanks for the follow up Gily, I'm going to upgrade the amp, but i was a little low on funds to do this all at once. I'm thinking about actually modding out an ammo can so that I have something a lil more secure as well so we'll see

Update on the bazooka.

It's in. I had to make a shim that would basically flatten the speaker mount. It dips down on one side and the HUGE magnet on the bazooka 6 inch was hitting the indention for the cd holder (if you don't have yours out yet, you probably are confused). Once the shim went in, I used some self tapping screws to adhere the speaker to the box. Tons of silicone. Then I used some rubber washers on the three screws that mount the console to the outside of the woofer (near the seat side) to isolate the speaker a little. Slapped it all together.

Dual voice coil is nice, definitely an improvement over the stock speaker. The wattage is about right for that speaker, so I'm relatively happy with the stock amp. I do have a CDA9815 older head unit in there and the speaker is technically hooked up through the rear channel. But it works. My jeep is beaten on a regular basis and I think this will hold up nicely.

One more add.

The nice thing about the bazooka is the wiring. No guessing or fiddling. The tabs are 1 larger, 1 smaller, exactly like the stock one. Very easy.

Sounds great too. My neighbor has the kicker, we decided it wasn't quite as good in sound, but easier to install. The hits are tighter in the bazooka, and the lows are slightly deeper on the kicker, but overall fairly similar. I forgot the camera at a friends, but when I get it back, I'll post some pics.

Is the kicker also running off the stock amp? You got the silicon on there so that no air can get around the speaker right? Yes, pics would be a great addition to this thread.

So, if I'm reading this entire thread right, the Bazooka is best in terms of ease of replacement? If someone could please sum it up for me, that would be great. I've got an '06 Unlimited, I can't imagine the console is any different.
Thanks,
Aaron

Gnarly, I was looking at this sub too for my Sahara. I'm not a fan of the BASS MACHINES some ppl install, I just want thump w/ a wide range for my music which is mostly Heavy Metal. What exactly did you have to do for modification work?

The bazooka is the only sub that is 6.5" and DVC 2 ohm. Meaning it can operate the amp at the same 1 ohm load the factory sub does. Meaning you get the most out of the factory amp (~75 watts). However as we found out from denalijb you will have to modify the enclosure more than the other 6.5" subs...it depends on how much effort and $ you wwant to put into the project.

I didn't really mind the stock woofer, except for the longevity. If I'm going to replace it I would like something that lasts longer and fits without too much modification. How difficult is the bazooka to fit?

So the bazooka is a direct plug and play replacement and it will run "well" off of the factory amplifier??? What about the Kicker 6.5" shallow sub, will that also run off of the factory amplifier?
