Speaker/ammo box

I picked up several ammo cans at a surplus store for storage and I decided to use a few of them as speaker box's. Im using two of the 20mm cans for my rear 6 1/2" speakers and I fit my bazooka 8" sub into one of them. I wired them temporarily and they sound great. here are some pix
before

after

Ill post more pics when I wire every thing up.

Cool idea. These would look really good as a center console, don't you think?

Nice!! Put some hush mat or some other self sticking sound damping matterial on the flat surfaces to keep things from making that "PONG!" sound on the bassy stuff. Very cool idea.

Ive been thinking along the same lines. The 20mm cans are very easy to modify into a lockable storage container. They also fit very nicely on the rear wheel wells of YJ's

An army buddy of mine had the AM/FM CD palyer in the ammo. box with the speakers and it was a portable / indistructable set-up ! plug it in a 12 V outlet and it was good to go.

The first one came as the center console when I bought the Jeep.(no cup holders) The second one I found at an Army surplus store in Sacramento.

You might want to get a couple of small u-bolts to make them lockable. With some velcro and some heat-shrink tubing, they don't make too much noise.

kewl. I picked mine up at General Surplus in Sacramento. its on el camino.
20mm are 12.50
the "50's" are 6.00
the "fat 50's" are 12
and I picked up some "rocket boxes" (same dimensions as the 50's, but taller" for 12.00

I was thinking of doing the same thing you did with the lock, but I was going to have my buddy weld one on. I didnt even think about bolting one. looks good. I plan on doing that now.

btw... what color did you paint those?? I painted mine hammered black, but I like the color you used. Id like to paint the rocket boxes that color.

Yep, same place. The guy running it was a little creepy though.

It's Rustoleum Rust Reformer, flat black. Nothing special. I bought it at Wal-mart, but here's a web page of it.

Although my can had this picture of a chair on it.

Must be their off brand.

Another cool idea is to use the smaller ones (.50 cal?) to replace your bumperettes.
