Well I live in Kuwait and theft isn't an issue here, I've seen a guy leave his lamborghini running with the door raised open and go into a convenient store.

My rear seat is always in, I've never removed it but when I go to the supermarket or when I have my dog in the back I just raise the seat.

I think I am going to do what you suggested and get a small metal covering fabricated to cover the amp. I think that would solve my concerns, it would protect the amp from groceries, drool and stuff banging into it.

I always take lots of pictures and try to name them properly like "alpine-f250-amp-location-2.jpg" so that if someone using google images tries to find a picture of the amp they can find it. Will also take pictures of the whole installation process from beginning to end so it can be helpful to forum members.

BTW, it seems like so far nothing is going according to plan. You know the picture of the grommet behind the brake pedal which PJL posted above, I checked mine yesterday and I have a ton of wires going through it! I need to see if I can fit two power cables through it or find another entry point.

Anyway spoke to a friend, I am going to a junkyard this weekend.
Tell them you're looking for the 'seat risers'. I had to order the factory ones from the 97 TJ parts book (only one that had the part number oddly). Find someone with the parts manual and they might be able to look it up. But it's just the two black things in this picture of the bottom of my seat during construction:

And here they are installed from the door's point of view (well one of em anyhow). Again, just the black metal part.

They were ~ $38 each or something of that nature; not no $700... Wounder what they're smoking...

Ok some more updates.

This is how my grommet looks like, lots of cables going through so I need a new point of entry for my power cables, any tips?

After that I started figuring out how I was going to wire my new speakers into my pods so I removed the factory speaker which is really crap and looked behind it.

When I removed it I found the cable going through the pod via a small tube. I doubt I am going to be able to squeeze my new cables through that, I will try but I might have to drill a tiny hole in the pod.

The cable then travels from the right pod towards the left one traveling on top of the roll bar. Once it gets to the end it comes down behind the drivers seat where it joins the cables coming from the trunk.

I noticed also that gas tank is located underneath the trunk where i will be mounting my amp. Will it be safe to drill a hole? I mean how far is the gas tank from right underneath the area I will be drilling? I think I will try to find the seat risers but just in case I will have to drill in the trunk...

Oh and I think I will for sure have to remove the roof and rear seat during the installation. Its just too claustrophobic if i dont.

Mine is being used also. Drill a couple of holes just like that (or even one larger hole) use a rubber plug and run wires through that. That's what I'm going to have to do. I think Crutchfield sells them. I'm sure www.partsexpress.com has them, they seem to have everything.

oh yeah, you aren't the only ones with problems. Trust me, my build isn't going smooth either. But I'm still learning a lot of tricks in the process.

I wouldn't want too, nor risk drilling the trunk area. You can't slide a bracket under those hooks protruding from the tub and attach it that way with screws? I think that would be easier. Plus, the gas tank is tricky. I installed a bumper yesterday and it was scary drilling out the rear cross member because of the plastic tank behind it.

The first time I installed my amp it was in that location. As long as you're careful (not jeweler careful, more like not negligent) you won't puncture your gas tank. There's a gap between the body and the gas tank. I had the drill bit go through about 1/2" and it didn't hit anything.

You should have an UNUSED super thick grommet behind the engine on the firewall, it comes in just to the left-center of hte dash but only a few inches from where the tranny tunnel meets the firewall. It is easy to cut or drill into.

I am heading out to the junk yard on Thursday morning, hopefully will get lucky and find a seat riser. If I do I won't have the need to drill in the trunk.. for now, I still would need to drill later to mount the BassLink.

If you havent bought any cables yet, i just bought some MONSTER brand RCAs as well as a JL Audio amp wiring kit on ebay for 1/3 of retail price.

4 channel Monster RCA 6M length (their XLN line) $46 shipped
JL audio 2 amp kit (4ga. with 8ga. splitter) $75 shipped

I got a 2 channel Monster RCA 6M length (sub specific rca, XLN line as well) from procura.com for $62 I paid extra for shipping, i think ground shipping (state side) was only like $7

I think i saw the large grommet you are talking about. I took a picture of it will post it when I get home. When looking from under the dash on the driver side the grommet is up right, its a black round plastic thing i think. I noticed it and took a picture of it but I didnt know what it was.

Yea that should be, you can see it from the engine bay as well. i grabbed it from the inside with pliers and someone else pushed on the rolled edges of it from the engine bay with a screw driver

im thinking it is the first one, but on my buddy's 05 it was unused. On my 02 it was unused.
i cant tell by looking where the 2nd one is, it seems as though it is up above the steering column. i used that for my reverse lights.

I think the second one if behind the middle of the dash. I think I am going to use the first one, will just cut through it and when done just cover it with duct tape.

I just got back from the junkyards awhile ago. I found two junkyards that had the seat riser I wanted, the first place would only sell me all three seats of the wrangler together and the second place wanted me to buy the full driver seat. They both wouldn't sell me just the riser by itself.

I haven't given up though, I will pass by the dealer on Saturday and try to see if they just have the seat risers by themselves. I am sure they misunderstood what I was looking for when I spoke to them on the phone.
