SIRGCAL's Rear seat box...

Hey Sirg,

Do you happen to have the measurements for the pieces in your '02 sub box that arent given? Like the angled pieces? I have everything made that is planned out but I am stuck there. I cant figure out what the other pieces are. Also, where do you start building from? The back or the front? Thanks in advance...im anxious to get this thing in my truck.

I used Sirgcal's plans for my box. All the peices that I needed were listed. I would do an invetory of the peices you have cut, check them off and see what you have left.

I don't think it matters, but I started from the back and worked forward.

How did you figure out the angle cuts? Thats where I am stuck.

Ah, I see. The bevels on the edges were arived at by my highly scientific method of trial and error. I had the end peices that had an angled cut on them. Using that as my guide, and some scrap wood I guestimated the degree of bevel untill it was right, then I cut the peices. I am not a very good woodworker, so someone else might have a better method!

Here is a picture of the begining of my project.

Yep! I love it! Of course I have never had a sub in one of my vehicles before, but I think it sounds great and I am happy with the end result. The seat is more firm then before. But the only people that ride back there are my kids, and they don't notice.

Have any more pics? I am having trouble figuring out how to make the bottom wing piece especially, but the whole wing piece in general.

I don't have any more from the building phase, just the completed box and then the final installation. You can see those pics here if you would like. http://jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=203026&highlight=gains

why not build that out of MDF. I thought all sub boxes should be made of it?

Yes, ideally I would have used MDF. The local lumber supply only had 1/2 inch MDF (and no plans to get any more) and plywood. Since I didn't want to drive nearly 200 hundred miles to get some (with no way to haul it back), I decided to use the plywood. If some becomes available here in the future, I may redo the box. But for the time being it works fine.

Ok, I think I have the thing figured out. It was much easier than it looks. It's just hard to figure out which piece goes where until you have a part assembled picture. Have the whole bottom half done and caulked. Now just to finish the top and close 'er up! Thats tonights project.

if you are refering to the planns (2nd image on the website), and referring to the angle of the pieces on the far right side, I am not exactly sure of the degrees. I cut out a piece like the top left one and use an angle guage on that to get the blade angle I need. And for the large back piece, I just cut one angled edge, attach that part to the top and use a router to cut out the rest of the box and plane off the backside.

But since you completed it, I'm sure you figured this out already. This is just incase anyone wanted to know.

Sirg, thanks so much for the help. Man do those dual 8's slam! I think it sounds better than with the two 12's in my grand prix. Although that had to pass through the trunk wall. Sooooo quick and soooooo tight. They are purdy! Ok, sorry for my rant. I didn't want to get out of the jeep. To all that want to try this...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
