Another Alpine vote here...I was a die hard Kenwood guy for years, but when XM first came out Kenwood was not on board so I went Alpine and have never looked back..Also, the Peterbilts I have owned and the one I currently drive for a company have come from the factory with Alpines and have never missed a beat..Trust me, long haul trucking is rough on equiptment as far as vibration and such and Alpine has been rock solid...

Good luck with whatever you choose....

the alpine is 2volts i believe. its not that important unless your running a comp setup. for a wrangler 2v is fine.

This couldn't be further from the truth. The source's output voltage does not change the amp's potential one iota. The gain, or more properly sensitivity adjustment on the amp tweaks the input voltage to match what the amp circuit is expecting to see. So if you have a 1V or an 8V preamp voltage, the amp itself will still put out the same result when properly setup.

All that you gain with a higher voltage is a lower noise to sound ratio. But anything above 2V is just peachy. Whoever told you this makes the amp more powerful is either messing with you, trying to sell you something (most likely), or uneducated themselves. The amps will still clip at the same output level regardless of a 1 or 8v input voltage. Lower noise is the only reason to go with a higher voltage.

i just checked back at this thread because i love alpine head units. i have been wondering about this the last few days because i am about to go to a newer alpine that has the percentage search for the ipod.
i THINK this will be my next one. they have one with the features i need but they have a bunch of red buttons with the blue and the solid blue looks better with my dash lights. i guess i'll have to talk to my financial advisor/wife. the one i have now is blue and green and it looks really nice. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=300&i=500CDA9886&tp=5684&avf=N

Hu? That unit has a 2-band EQ built in (bass/treble). Also 'Bass Engine' sound Enhancement mode and built-in iPod controls. Very nice unit. Not sure who told you that you needed a $200 something... Infact, I can't even think of something that would give you bass & treble functions as an add-on like that.

its a jeep.. the sony will sound just fine had sonys in my previous 3 wranglers.. my 06 the stock 6CD sounds great didnt need to change the deck.. when you have the top down(or up) riding down the high way in a TJ you arent gonna notice the difference in sound quality.. and if i were entering competition I surely wouldnt choose a TJ as my sound stage...
get the sony, ive never had the CD skip issue mentioned above any my first 2 TJ's I wheeled pretty hard..

Orangez sorry I was thinking the CDA-9887
http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-CDA-9887-player-Full-DIN-dash/dp/B000UVNHBI
check out what the reviewers said there. Just make sure the 9885 doesn't have the same problem.

Alpine 9813

From what i can gather, the 9887 is a nice unit because of the processing abilities. I wouldn't spend $300 if i'd plan on a set of components though.

The 9887 has a built-in 7 band equalizer. There's no need for a bass and treble function. What those reviewers are talking about using is the way the Alpine can be setup for individual songs or artists with specific EQ options. The MultiEQ is a nice feature but not necessary to get to the full seven band EQ in the unit. Units with multi band EQs do not need/have a bass treble control. Bass and treble controls are essentially 2 band EQs.

Just ripped it out cause it finally went poo poo.

don't forget the USB port in the back. And it's the same price as the CDA 9885 from crutchfield.

Seems to cover just about every format used to play music.
