replacing stock TJ speakers with larger speakers???
i know to repalce the 4x6's you need a plate to make it fit right but i was wondering if its possible to put a larger better soundinf speaker in there like a 5 1/4 or even a 6 1/2?

I used these adapters to add 5.25" Focals in the front and they sound great...$25 is not cheaop, but they are perfect. There are some really great 5.25" speakers on the market, plenty to chose from..Focals were the crispest sounding speakers to my ear...I almost installed a component system with the tweeter hidden under the dop of the dash, with little holes drilled for sound, but it started getting a little costly... My mistake was putting 5.25 in the overhead pods. I really want to upgrade those to 6.5". I have never seen anyone put in 6.5's up front. They may be so big that the tweeter (if your using coaxials) will be hidden behind the dash, thus losing a lot of sound... Good luck, keep us posted. |

some 6 1/2" ones might be do-able (good luck upjeeper), but 5 1/4" speakers DO fit, as long as you get the right adapter plate, easily.
two snips from a tin snipper get rid of an unecissary metal strap that held the stock speaker in place...cutting does nothing structurally so don't worry a bit. got my adapters from MJM Auto Innovations shipped for about $14. turned out great and sounds about 300% better over stock with just the fronts upgraded (the white fluffy stuff behind the speaker and plate is called Polyfill (basically cheap pillow stuffing)--it helps eliminate backwaves which gives the speaker better bass response and just sounds better in general): ![]() hope this helps ~J

5.25"s up front. 6.5"s are too big. as mentioned, even if you were somehow able to shoehorn them in there, the sound would be bad because the speakers would end up so far inside the dash. if you're not running a sub or will not run a sub, run 6.5"s in the soundbar. if you have a sub or will run a sub, there is no need for 6.5"s up there and you might as well just match the size and speaker for the best sound possible.
