I asked my insurance company, USAA, about a discount if I use Lojack. They offered me a $6.36/6 month discount. I figured that the cost of Lojack being about $700, I'll just let the insurance company buy me a new Jeep if mine gets stolen. Not that I want to lose mine. I love my Jeep dearly, especially since it's my first. I am just careful where I park it. I've learned the hard way that thieves love movie goers. They know you are going to be inside for at least 2 hours watching the movie. Just park next to a Hummer or Land Rover, or Corvette...something more enticing (unless the thief is a Jeep lover).

I had 100s of hours of customization into the jeep. Insurance won't replace that! If you keep it stock, no need for lojack. Mine was $1080 with the early warning system.

I was planning on putting some power locks in so my alarm would unlock the door, but i decided to see how easy it was to slim jim with the door cover off. Its damn easy and takes 2 seconds with little experience. You can jimmy the key tumbler area, or even down by the latch. I added a bunch of screws and a metal bar to "jimmy proof" it. It might be possible to get open with a properly bent coat hanger, but without knowing where the screws are it would be damn near impossible. Its 100% impossible with the standard ~1" slim jim. I spend a few minutes trying all the angles while watching it from the inside and there is no way it can be done. Sure they could possible pry the window and hit the lock on the inside, or pry out the tumbler, but at least it wont take them 2 seconds. Burn in hell thieves!!

I give jeep a D- on the lock design. Other manufactures have been making jimmy proof locks for years. all it takes is a little piece of metal in the right place. Maybe cost jeep $1 more.

I have some pics and a video that i'll upload i a few days.

personally if i where a thief i would just use a broken spark plug.. it shatters saftey glass with little to no sound other than it falling into the door and ground. and interesting idea is a magnetic reed switch.. pretty cheap from your local radio shack put it on the fuel pump all it takes is a magnet in an area to energize the switch to use it hell put the magnet on your roll cage when u get out its small black and inconspicuious... a plus side is that the jeep will start and move a short period until the fuel system runs out of gas means it moves to technically it was stolen and not vandalized. which means a higher chance of prints being taken god knows they dont do it for burgalaries where i live or id of pressed charges. but it moving 10 or so feet or however long until the system goes out at least means it wont go very far. as a side note you can also do that with ur garage door opener under the dash with the reed switch wave a magnet to open it keeps your home safe if they break in while ur vehicle is outside they never know its there just put the wires on each side of the contact switch :>D

hidden underneath my dash I have a fuel cut off switch. Even if they get into it, hot wire it, they are only going ten feet before the Jeep runs out of gas. Total cost $10 bucks.

does anyone know of any write-ups anywhere for a fuel cut-off switch or something else like the stuff mentioned in this thread?

what i did was just locate the relay that feed the fuel pump. then, locate the wire that powers that relay. then cut the wire. add an extension to each end. then, put a switch to connect the 2 extensions. hide the switch and you are done. when you open it, there is no power to the fuel pump. just activate the switch, and you are ready to go. you can do the same to the starter....

i also have a fuel cut off switch. but with it in the Off position, my jeep wont even start. when i wired it, i thought it would start with the fuel left in the lines. but no, it wont. and as soon as i activate the switch, it starts without a problem. is that not normal?

yeah, that is normal. The FP will prime with key on before it starts. Only a carb will run with no fuel pump on startup.

basic idea just transfer it over to your jeep some people advise against using a switch like this but it does work and as i said u can always put a black magnet on your black roll bar whos gonna see it?

i thought about this for a good time as well and they way i see it is... you dont want whomever has the idea to even lift the hood. If I were to build a system i would put shock sensors on all 6sides and maybe a couple extra around handels/key areas, a switch under the hood lever incase someone wants to play with the engine first. simple picture taking motion cameras are a good idea. And of corse all the nice features of a high end system. But if your like me.. and your generaly not too far from your jeep and you wouldnt mind not only hearing your jeep but also want to inflict a little "love" to the unsuspected.... put some realy realy loud train horns on it.. i plan on doing it to my 64 chevy when i find the right horns haha

dog and a 12 gauge, my Jeep is loud enough that you would have to haul it away without turning it on to not wake me. If someone did try to steal it from my driveway. The only thing my insurance would be paying for is a new windshield that was shattered by the pellet spread
