Power Source to Tap in the Engine Bay?

I've had my KC fog lights wired up for a while now and last month they stopped working, I had originally just taken a copper wire and made a small loop and put it on the batter under the main power. It stopped working because the copper fried off, is there a better way to tap into the battery through another wire or some other kind of wire I can use? Thank you.

If by "fried", you mean corroded, this is because the battery tends to be corrosive. If "fried" means it burned, this is because you need some kind of current-limiting device (like a fuse) to prevent the battery's full current from flowing through this wire in the event of a short or overload.

Follow the battery cable to its other end (probably the starter or a "solenoid") and connect a fusible link to that terminal. Then splice you wire to the other end of the fusible link.
