Ok, I guess I'm gonna try and make a box lol
Since there is no design for the in-seat box for a YJ, I suppose I am going to try and create my own behind rear seat box. (This is my first time doing anything like this.)
I plan on modeling the box after the pre made box from Quadratec. (http://www.quadratec.com/products/14136_310.htm) This is the sub that I have to work with. (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_2067C104/Kicker-Comp-07C104.html?search=kicker+10) I really want to try to keep the height of the box below the wheel wells, because I want to put a board across the top of the box and mount it to the tub somehow. (Just like the quadratec box does.) How do I find out what size to cut the MDF to make it the correct volume inside the box?

Cubic feet = box length x width x depth in feet. Or box length in inches X width in inches X depth in inches divided by 1728 to equal cubic feet.

Put the board across the top or measure the height then you work on the depth and width you need to make the correct volume for the sub. Use a box calculator and you can play around with the mdf thickness (3/4-3/8 is best) and other measurements. If you push the "box" part of the enclosure to the right you'll still have some room for storage (make sure to put in a notch for the third brake light wiring/connector box).

Thanks guys! I took out the 3rd brake light so no worries about that! So I just see how much cubic feet my sub needs, which is 1.0-2.4 sealed, and 1.25-1.75 ported cubic feet, and play around with the box calculator and try to get a number within one of those ranges?
I know ported/unported boxes depend on preference, but generally what does porting the box do to benefit? Is there a particular spot to put the port hole? If anyone has experience with this sub, any suggestions? |

i would shoot for around 1 ft^3 sealed. with the ported in a a jeep environment i think you wouldn't gain much at all from porting a sub like that in exchange for a much more complicated build with a high chance of screwing it up for a first timer more to lose than gained in this situation me thinks. just make sure its down firing. i think you would be ok putting it 3-4" off the ground.
and i think gily meant to say 3/4-5/8 rather than 3/8. not sure but it makes more sense to me. usually 3/4 is the standard though just because it is so common.
