NMO mount for 1/4 or 5/8 wave

I know 2 meter antennae installs have been beaten to death here.Has any one glued or fabricated a metal disk to their non metal roof for a ground plane. In theory it seems doable that you would have a nice omnidirectional radial pattern vs going with bumper install. I think you only need a 19" disk for 1/4 wave. Please correct me if I'm wrong.I recently picked up a Yaesu 2 meter FT-2900R with rebate.
Thanx in advance
