well, I posted this up in the TJ section, but then it got moved to the Jeep Registry section b/c of all the pictures. That's okay. Here's the sound system part of my projects...for the rest of the pictures look for my thread in the Jeep Registry section.

Subwoofer: 10" Pioneer Premier TS-W1500SPL
- 600W RMS
- 1500W Peak
- DVC
- This sub absolutely rocks. The lows it can reach is simply unbelievable...very smooth, but punches hard when it needs to.






Amplifier: Pioneer GM-D510M Mono-block
- 600Wx1 RMS @ 2ohms
- 1000Wx1 Peak @ 2ohms
- Wired using a Schosche 5ga power and dual 9ga ground kit. Used 12ga Schosche speaker wire.
- This amp is a perfect match for the 1500SPL...sounds great.


Ground for amp: rear seat catch bracket


Enclosure: Down-firing 3/4" Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF)
- Seal interior with rubberized undercoating and edges with silicon caulk.
- Used T-nuts and machine screws to attach sub to box.
- Fits perfectly behind the rear seat and can only be removed if the tailgate is open.
- Used banana plugs to attach speaker wire to exterior of box for easy removal.

Looks good. Now add some sealing paint to it to protect it from light moisture and maybe add some carpet or something.

The double-grounds look like you're just trying to make up for not having 4 AWG ground. You should pick up a small piece. And a non-red color also. But there's nothing wrong with the double ground AS LONG AS you don't have any ground-loop noise.

Okay let me clear the double-ground wire thing first:
The only reason I used 2 smaller gauge wire from ground instead of one wire the same gauge as the power wire is...well I ran out of wire.
I bought a Schoche from Wal-Mart that had 5ga power wire, a fuse & fuse holder, a distributor block (which I didn't need), 9ga power wire, and 9ga ground wire. There was no 5ga ground to match the 5ga power. I think this kit was supposed to be a multi-amp kit (it was the only kit they had, though) with the 5ga power going to the distiutor block, then two seperate 9ga power wires going from the block to two different amps. But since I'm running just one amp (plus it's 600W RMS), I wanted the 5ga power to go right to the amp. Problem solved, no big deal...but not enough 5ga wire to ground that bad boy.

They only provided like 3 ft of black 9ga ground wire, so it wasn't enough to double it up. So I just took the red 9ga power wire, cut it exactly in half, and doubled it up as the ground. Wire is wire, I didn't think it mattered what color the wire jacketing was...it should be okay.

So that's why I used two 9ga wires for the ground.

Yes NnF, I ground the metal under the lugs a little so it's metal to metal.

SirGCal: the sub sounds really good with the doubled ground...what does ground-loop noise sound like? I'm not sure if I have it or not...but it sounds really good right now.

As for the outside of the box, I am going to seal it and spray paint it I think. Definitely going to seal it for moisture and air, but I don't know what kind of spray paint (coor, type) I'm going to use just yet.

The sub sounds AWESOME. I didn't know that a 10" sub could hit this hard and dig so deep in frequency. The sub amd amp are a perfect match. Since the sub is downfiring, the air travels under the rear seat toward the front. You can hear it very clearly IN THE CAB...not outside though...just how I like it. The waves are focused to be heard while inside the vehicle, and it doesn't blare loudly for passers-by to hear. I've been cruising with the top down and doors off for 4 days now, and I've only had to crank the volume up to 23 out of 50 to hear it plenty loud.

It can sound like alternator or fuel-pump noise for example but if you don't have any then no worries.

sounds realy good man. i really want to put a 10 in my jeep and take out the 2 8's i have in there right now. i have a single 10 in my Acura integra and it pounds!!!

that box looks really nice. i just built one for my truck for 2 8's. i started working with the remainder of a sheet of 5/8 particle board. i ran out and finished up with 1/2 MDF. I had forgotten how nice that stuff is to work with.

1/2" is a bit thin... Be sure you use plenty of internal bracing to prevent resonance. A pair of 8" can easily flex some 1/2" MDF if it's big enough and not braced. I try never to go below 5/8" and when possible use 3/4" MDF or larger depending on the application..

Should be easy to add some braces though if you do have some resonation. You can just use dowel for example and glue/screw it in place. If not, don't worry about it.

yeah i usually use 5/8 but i ran out and didnt want to buy a 4x8 sheet to do 4 small pieces. only thing ins tock was the 1/2" 2'x4' sheet. i was a little worried about the thickness but it seemed sturdier than the 5/8 particle board.

As long as it's not resonating you should be fine.

But yea, I never use particle board; only MDF, certain solid stocks or the occasional fiberglass.
