ok so i finally checked out what my buddy had, and what do you know all of the sudden he wants to sell it lol. oh well, he has this amp for sale http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9710_Infinity+1300a.html and he has this enclosure from his dodge ram http://www.crutchfield.com/p_236DRQ2CT4/MTX-ThunderForms-Charcoal.html?showAll=N&tp=12431&tab=detailed_info he would sell me one of his ten's out of. Now I could probably get the sub and amp for $90-100. Do you guys think this would be worth it and what about the sub, it seems to be ok. I would make my own box to fit in the back. Let me know what you guys think...

Ehh... you could do better. I'd say let him try to sell it. But if you can get it for THAT cheap, maybe. The 4500 DVC subs alone are worth ~ $50 used. That amp isn't very excellent though but it would work with one of those. Pretty weak for two of them though.

There's nothing wrong per-say. Infinity makes some great speakers, but their electronics are only so-so. The sub is actually not bad at all, but if you take one the box he has becomes nearly impossible to sell, though he could try to sell the remaining sub and/or the shell as unloaded. If he gives you the amp and one of the subs (and they are indeed 4-ohm DVC T4500 subs) for ~ $75, that would not be a bad deal.

i would be literally taking a 10" sub out of the enclosure and that's it. He has had it on ebay for awhile and it's been sitting for years in his house so he just wants to get some cash for one of the subs. $75 would def be a good deal but I don't know if he will go that low. So the sub is pretty good and the amp is so-so honestly that's good enough for me. If I put it in a front firing box facing the seat do you think it will hit hard?

Down-firing would be significantly better not only for sound but safer for the sub also.

this would be the first box i have ever built. I just downloaded the manual for that sub with the box making directions on it for a sealed front firing enclosure. Could I just Flip it over on it's face and put some rubber legs on it?

if it'll fit that way, ya. But it would be really simple to design a basic, easy to build, down-firing box for a YJ. I'd do it for you for free if you were close enough. Someone who knows how to do the math to calculate the volume (I have calculators on my website in the programs are, remember they calculate off INTERNAL measurements only) if someone knows how to design the boxes then they can calculate it out pretty easily. It doesn't have to be perfect.

im sure that would sound great but not looking to spend that much money. I know eclipse makes good head units but I think they look ugly. |

I don't think it would be too bad. If you get the sub and the amp for less than $100, it's a fine deal. It's much more important to make sure it's installed properly and the enclosure is solid, with the correct internal volume.
Just keep in mind... that woofer is entry-level. You won't win any SPL trophies, but I think they perform better in a vented box. |

so no room for ported, and yea i know it's not the best system but I don't want the best either. If I can get away with a decent sub and amp for $100 I think I'm ahead of the game. Then I can move on to making my stock suspension jeep a real jeep |
