good call on that. i wouldnt but a 10 year old sub i know that for sure. like sirG said do it in steps. thats how i did mine and i am very pleased with the outcome.

and finding out what you want really is the biggest obstacle. its amazing the time a person can put into researching the stuff lol. go by a local shop and find out what you want to do sub wise. dont have to buy it but its nice to know what you want rather than fretting about it for a couple of months

and look into the alpines. i have never heard a complaint about them. other than the initial price tag compared to the cheapest ones out there but the value you get with them is phenomenal. lots of bang for the buck.

I know it's crazy right? I have been driving myself nuts trying to figure out what I want to do and I keep changing my mind. I almost feel bad asking questions because I know my mind is prob gonna change again lol.

I also agree with sirgcal's advice, get your h/u and speakers now. By doing it in stages you can get a better h/u and a better sub. Also you will be

I am personally a JL audio fan. I had two 10's downfiring in my last jeep. However now I'm on a tighter budget and don't care to wake the neighbors anymore so I am going with a 10" MTX 5500 series in a sealed box.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_236T5510D4/MTX-TR5510-44.html?tp=111

Picked one up at a local audio shop for $90. I'm having a box made for $60 but you can make your own cheap.

Picked up a 5 channel amp on craigslist for $100 wich will push my small speakers and sub. Spent about $190 on my 4x6 fronts and 6.5 rears (you can find them cheaper on ebay).

All in all I have about $440 in my total system.

Correction. About another $50 in wires. $490 total.

yeah i went into a local mom and pop car audio store today and it didn't help. They only confused me more lol. They wanted me to get an amp for my dash and soundbar speakers and a kicker comp vr in a custom box and amp..... anyways it was more than double what I wanted to spend. And you can't tell them anything either, I went in there asking how much those Pioneer 4x6's I wanted were and they basically laughed and told me they suck or in their words "sounded tinny".

So I am going to get my head unit first, then my 4x6's then I have to find a TJ soundbar to put the 5 1/4's and then worry about the sub. I'm just gonna put the subwoofer headache on hold till it's time. And of course this is what I'm thinking of doing now in a week this could all change lol.

Ofcorse they are going to say that. The make $ by selling you stuff you don't need. Very few retail shops are going to actually give the information to you strait.

yeah and i'm in sales i can appreciate that but one of the first questions they asked me was my budget and I told them and they said what i wanted to do wasn't good and recommended what they liked and it was way more money than I wanted to spend. Oh well I'm gonna buy most of the stuff online and I check craigslist and ebay everyday, I love those sites for deals. I'm just gonna have to find someone to install the amp and sub.

if you can get an afternoon to your self it is simple to install it all yourself. i know its intimidating at first but once you get over pulling off trim panels its not bad at all. dont worry, you wont bust the panels in half or burn down your jeep either lol. plus you can save alot o dough yourself and get better equipment

there have been several people write up tutorials on here if someone wants to post one up (my search returns a blank white page from some reason) that show how to do it step by step. basically its 2 wires from the back of your radio, a wire from the battery and a short one screwed into the tub. thats essentially it.

Watch out buying from onlinecarstereo.com. They are not an authorized dealer which means the maker will not honor the warranties. Their customer service is as bad as it gets.

Just search on google for an amp wiring diagram. This is the first link that pulls up.

Good luck. It is really not that hard and you will save a ton of money doing it yourself. I have a system that I spected out at Car Toys for over $1600.

Doing it myself I saved over $1000.

They prey on the uneducated.
