Nav display fails to dim at night - Auto Brightness Mode selected

'05 GC Limited - two part question:

1. Can anyone tell me if the OEM dash TFT display brilliance level for day/night operation is supposed to effect only the nav map function? Or is nighttime display brightness supposed to be reduced for all modes (CD, Sat. Radio, AM/FM)?

2. If it is only the nav map display that is supposed to dim at night would the dimming signal originate in the Sat Receiver module? According to the shop manual the Sat. Receiver Module isn't even located under the dash but behind rear quarter panel trim - possibly easy access.

I'm just trying to figure out exactly which modes are supposed to dim at night in Auto Mode and if possible I'd like to know exactly where our missing dimming signal originates. Would appreciate any potentially helpful comments.
