My VDP problem adding sound bar and sound wedges
Hi,
I don't want to be a complainer, but VDP really got me going. 93 Wrangler - straight stock so far. Just as a heads up, I had more problems with VDP products and I had to return the sound wedges I bought and the sound bar as well. The wedges would fit if you are 5'6" and didn't have the seat back, but I am 6'-4" and they were getting crushed. I returned them and got a soundbar. The sound bar first came with no instructions. Second, it advertised that it would fit a YJ with no drilling required. The holes were twice the width of the standard YJ setup, thus drilling required. VDP never called me or JC Whitney back for help with installation. JC Whitney tried and tried, so I am not suprised VDP never called me back. Now I am left with my stock 4", but my new Pioneer HU makes an amazing difference. All I wanted was to be able to jam with the top off...I guess I will have to build a box. I would think twice about buying VDP. They were unresponsive and the descriptions didn't tell the whole story.

that's nothing!!!
try getting a BRAND NEW soundbar. hook everything up and have only 2 of the 6 speakers work... we had to take the quick disconect and hard wire all the wires..... had to open it up and re-connect the Left wire, for the left side.... then had to put the wires on 2 more speakers.... AND the magnet on the tweeter fell of, i had to put it back on.... and this was brand new.... there is no quality control what so ever.... their products SUCK.....

lesson to be learned: many aftermarket things like the 6-speaker bars (which are about the worst idea I've ever thought about for wrangler sound) and other oddities might not be the best way to go. They play on consumer illusions of what's the best option.
Instead, consider upgrading the stock equipment. Most soundbars can easily take a good 5.25" or even 6.5" speaker. Dashes can often be upgraded to 5.25" rounds also. (even in YJs) Do this well and you'll have better sound than any (current) off-the-shelf sound-bar/pod package you can find.

Agreed,
check my sig. This all fit in factory spots with very little mod, cept I built my own custom sub box for the sub and amp that fits behind the rear seat perfect, downfiring and low profile so I can still stack some gear or groceries on top. Very un-obvious and unnattractive to thieves when the face plate is detached. Got this all on sale, last years floor pieces from a few different stereo shops. Put it all together for about $600 and it's worth over $1000. Sounds awesome with the top on and not bad at all with it off.
