how many cubes is the box and where you gonna mount the amp? not on the box i hope. Ive got the 2007 12" L7, blew my first cuz i didnt let it break in long enough i guess lol and my second is still goin strong with being fed 1500w rms lol...although the amp seems like its starting to go after 2 years of beating the **** out of it.

Looks like a good build tho

Break in is one of the most important that to do to a woofer! As for the amp it will be mounted to the back of the box... I never had any troubles mounting amps on my spl boxes so this one won’t even matter... My box is around 4 cubes and tuned to 33hz.

That looks like it is going to be a killer system when you get finished with it!

Getting a full ride sponsored is a hard thing to do. The way I received my full ride sponsorship after I was already a 3 time world champ and using Kicker equipment. So I tell people that want to get sponsored is to work really hard prove your self and make sure you put in the time!

I will be going to a few shows this year with this set up. There are a few organizations that have a non-burp class which means you really have to play music. I will be doing DB Drag racing in the bass race section 139.9 class, and maybe some MECA shows as well.

Ya, Kickers are good in SPL. But that hasn't impressed me since I was 17. Loud is easy. Properly tuned, more power, more moving mass, solidified housing = louder. Clean is the hard part. SQ competition are FTW! SPL is just for the noise.

However, nice system. I don't mind the Kicker fill speakers but their square subs are just junk for any of my needs (as said, I don't do SPL). But since you're doing DB Drag, they should work nicely. And as I have always said, it's all about building the system for the end user's needs. Plus, getting stuff for free never sucks.

Not only is Kicker great at SPL they have more world SQ champs with the best of show as well (using the L7s)!

Loud is not easy as most sq guys think. It’s not about throwing a bunch of subs and amps in a car then BAM now your loud. I remember one year I built 120 + boxes for 1 car…… If it was easy every one would do it!

Anyway Sq is about how clean you car is at the show right? Heheheh jk

Loud is a lot easier than SPL guys think... I used to do SPL. I got bored because it ended up being the guys with the endless armor plating and bogus don't even drive vehicles always have the advantage. IMHO, if you can't drive it, it has no place in a 'car soundoff'. But then some !@#$% would just put it in a 5th wheel and drive it in there... At least now there are different classes.. It's better than it used to be... but...

Still, you only have to measure the frequency response of your vehicle with the expected approximate box and 'insulation' in place, build a vented box tuned to that frequency with as much excursion, power, and moving surface as you can. And boom. You're louder than the next guy. Sounds like trash but you win.

Now some guys are trying to get a format called SQL started and I hear in some competitions they are actually doing some measuring as such. It's basically an SQ competition that includes SPL factors. Now THAT is hard. To get both loud and at the same time keep it perfectly flat (well, it's actually impossible.. but we try...).

And lastly, the reason I don't much like SPL anymore, the biggest reason.. You can't really use it. Why build something you can't really use. If you do:
1) You go deaf. Anything over 100dB for sustained periods will cause permanent hearing damage.
2) You just piss everyone off around you... Actually, some guy not far from me just shot up a kids car cause he refused to turn it down. (no the kid wasn't in it.) Obviously that wasn't cool either but I do sympathize with the guy. I hate the kids thumping through residential neighborhoods. And I'll bet when he get's sentanced, it's very light if any real (time) penalty. (I'll have to see if I can dig up that article...)
3) In some cities, they will take your car. Absolutely and outright. And you don't get it back. If you sue them, you can often get the NADA value of your vehicle but not the contents there-in. I heard they were doing away with this strict penalty but I also heard of one happening just earlier this year.
4) I did mention that you can go deaf right? Just checking...

Now I know a LOT of guys who have insane systems that never use them like that. But then again, why... Still that's their thing and that's what it's all about! Doing your thing.

A lot of SPL guys here my system and just say 'so weak, you can't do crap with 6" subs...'. Then I turn it up and they're impressed I can hit 118dB measured at the dash with a sealed box to boot. (in perfect conditions, obviously tons more at the console, but that's not where it counts). 121dB is my measured limit with full distortion (tone burp). Then they get this odd look in their face... I still can't quite place it...

My thing lately has been stealth. Making insane systems with no visible impact on storage. My best show ever was the last one (0-600 USACi SQ) where the Judge actually sat in my Jeep (yup, did it in just about the worst SQ environment to do it in... a soft-top Jeep Wrangler). He was listening to the 'Pink Panther Orchestral' Track on one of his judging CDs and another tune. I thought the judging was complete but didn't want to bother him so I just enjoyed it. Then he asks 'mind if we do that one more time?'. I'm like... Sure... What's up? He said: 'It just sounds so nice which I didn't expect in this vehicle. I'm surprised.'. Needless to say I took 1st, also to MY surprise since really I entered the Jeep as just something to do while I was there doing other things and never even finished tweaking it out for show before hand (that and it was a sponsored rig at the time but just for product show and custom work, not actual competition). That's my thing.

The biggest problem with SQ guys are the simple fact that everyone hears differently. Your judge can love it today, hate it tomorrow. Where-as SPL guys just have to hit their numbers. Case in point, I've never heard a non-round sub that really impressed me. Either they take a lot of power to move efficently, or they flex (well, they still flex but some like the L7 have it well under control). Still, maybe just because of my horribly sensitive ears, I can hear the difference. But then honestly, that probably includes less than 1% of everyone alive... And no, it's not a blessing. I hate it. I wish my hearing was more standard. I'd enjoy a lot more stuff in life. Most movie theaters sound horrible to me for example. So much so that I rarely go now unless they are at a few select theaters I've found with tolerable sound. IMAX usually has their stuff tuned pretty well. I do go there a lot.

Anyhow, now I'm just rambling.. Your system looks killer. I bet it sounds nice too. Don't get me wrong by my posts, I'm not knocking it. Don't mean to at all. You mentioned that you were into SPL and what not and I just meant to say, that's one thing Kicker is very good at. Looks cool! Post up some finish pics.
