My 2m and my Amp ... Not friends!

Okay so i put a different 2m radio on my jeep just to test it out ... it's a kenwood tx ... something, i forget lol. But it's an older model. Anyway i keyed up yesterday and my amp smoked. My amp is a 800w sony xplod powering 2 xplod 10's. When i keyed up my subs cut out completely and i smeled the great electrical burning smell. I looked back and there was smoke coming out of my amp lol. I'm going to tear it apart later and check it out.

a 2m ham radio shouldnt have caused any issues with a sub amp. did you try and hook the 2m up to the amp in some way?

Nope they're totally separate. I took apart the amp the other day and the board is pretty well fried.

Did you have an inline fuse on the power wire from the battery? How was your ground mounted? Sounds like you got an electrical charge through the system and the amp lost.
