MSD Ignition box

My MSD unit went out after some water and/or vibrations from the first offroad venture since it was installed. It had worked great for the six months prior. Rather than send it back to MSD and paying to have it fixed (may not be repairable according to one of thier tech reps) I purchased the MSD Offroad unit and installed it yesterday. Being a bit of a pessimist, I am thinking of sending the original back to MSD, having it fixed, and carrying it in the parts box as a spare. My question would be:

(1) Has anyone had experience sending in the MSD unit back to the company to have it looked over and/or fixed? It costs $40-120 based on thier time and may not be fixable at all.

(2) Is the Offroad unit that much better than the original and I shouldn't worry about it failing?

Thanks for your input!

I would post this in the CJ section. Jeephammer there worked for MSD and would be able to help.
