I've been looking into getting this with my RB1, but i'm affraid of it not working right with my 80gb ipod Classic. I've heard some stories with the ipod touch and iPhone saying it freezes up.....
Has anyone used this with the ipod classic and can confirm how well it works? Thanks Mike

I really appreciate trying to help me out, but i'd feel a lot more comfortable hearing from someone who actually has the classic with the system before buying it. It's $180 dollars and a lot of work to install....just to rip it back out and try to return it if it doesn't work

The question is, RB1 with Sirius Sat AND song title/artist (cable and multiplexer). Is anything extra required with the ipod setup to be able to see artist and song from the ipod via the RB1???

The 30gb and 80/160gb ipods are completly different as far as the software goes. The 30gb will work, I already know that. I'm curious if the new 80/160s will work. Apple completly changed the software around so that the ipods only work with Apple products (and sometimes outside products, but it's A LOT more limited then the before with the 30gbs)
I've heard some complaints about it not working right with the 80/160s, but nothing that was written recently. Wondering if anything's changed

I have one in my RBK radio. I use a 20gb ipod and works well.
My friend tried plugging in his iPhone as well, and worked perfectly. I'm guessing iPod Touches will work as well |

I just took my collection of iPods out to my TJ and checked them all out.
1) iPod Mini (2 gig... works fine... this is kept in my wife's KJ) 2) iPod Nano (4 gig first generation Nano... works fine... I keep this in my TJ all the time) 3) iPod Nano (8 gig, second generation Nano... works fine... my wife uses this one for working out) 4) iPod Video (60 gig, first generation... works fine... I use to leave this in my TJ but I didn't want it to get stolen so I just leave the Nano in the glove box now.) 5) 3G iPhone (16 gig, works fine... only gives me a warning that says, "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone. Charging is not supported with this accessory. Would you like to turn on Airplane Mode to reduce audio interference? You will not be able to make or receive calls. (select Yes or No)" I selected "No" and everything works (the Airplane mode just turns off the phone for getting on a plane). The iPhone software runs a little slow while music is playing to the Mopar iPod Kit. When I try to make a phone call, the music stops and the phone works fine. All iPods allow the Mopar iPod Kit to control the iPods (select playlists and songs). All also charge/ are powered by except for the iPhone, which I would assume is the same for the iPod Touch since it's an iPhone without the phone. The only problem I have ever had is sometimes an iPod will hang on the "updating" screen (which the Mopar iPod Kit re-reads the playlists on the iPod when you change them). When this happens, I just unhook the iPod and turn it off and on and this has corrected the problem. Although I will add that my iPod Video seemed to do this more often when it's hard-drive was full of videos. But other then that, still love the Kit! Works great and as I have said, no more burning CD's! Thousands of songs at my finger tips. ![]() |

Not as great as it sounds!
I just installed the iPod integration kit in my 2005 TJ tonight w/ an RBK (base) radio. Here are my thoughts:
Installation is awesome (piece of cake). The instructions are short but thorough at the same time. The kit installed easily behind the instrument cluster and the wiring was easy to lay out. At first, I was concerned that the cables might not have enough slack. After completing the install I realize the cables are in fact too long and you will end up with a lot of excess slack if you install it using the factory layout. The hardest part of the install was drilling a hole in the glove box to route the plug. But now that it's installed, it looks really slick (like it was a factory option). The cable is pretty thick and stiff, which means that once this kit is installed your glove box will only have room for an emergency tampon and a stick of gum. Maybe a wheel lock key. Unfortunately, with the RBK radio, this kit is a HUGE disappointment! I am still trying to grasp the horribleness of the whole thing, but it appears that the only way you can locate music is by: 1) organizing it in playlists 2) scanning the entire iPod, track by track, or 3) shuffling around randomly and hoping to God that you find a song you like With the RBK, there is no way to browse by artist or album. There is a "Genre" browse which is absolutely useless unless all of your music is broken down into very plain categories like "Rock" and "Country". The worst part is that if you give up on navigating with the lame *** voice prompts, you can't even use the click wheel on the iPod. The only way around that is to disconnect the data cable from the iPod and instead use the aux. jack. Doing this means the iPod will not charge. This also means you can't store the iPod in your glove box, as the kit intended, because you still need to access the controls! Anyway, I'm going to try organizing my 1,300 songs (8GB Nano, God help you if you have more songs) into playlists that could help me find the artists. If I make lists of 30 songs each, I'll only have 50 playlists to dig through every time I start the f*ing vehicle! For $200, this is sure a kick in the balls. Now I need to consider whether I want to buy an RBQ which actually supports browsing artists and albums. Or do I just spend another $400 and get an RB1? That's money that could be going to a 2" BB or a No-Slip. Or do I take it all out back, smash it to pieces, and buy an aftermarket deck that does everything properly! If anybody has any tips or tricks to using this with an RBK, I'd appreciate your input. |

Take it back...
I have an RB1, Navigation with Ipod. I can clearly browse all my music and took hours creating playlists for my 10000 songs. Even with all the extra orgizational work I put in, navigation through the IPOD is so cumbersome that it is useless except for long trips... I really expected to spin the RB1 nob to roll through my artists, select an artist and then browse through their albums, select an album and then go through that album's songs. In reality though, you finally get to an artist and select them and you go right to their first song, no album selection, no song selection. TOO CUMBERSOME, final answer. Russo |

If anybody needs it, I have an iTunes script that makes playlists out of every album in your library. I am using this to navigate the albums via my RBK.
So basically I have about 50 playlists. I know that Avenged Sevenfold is numbers 5 and 6, Drag the River is in the 20s, Metallica is somewhere in the 30s and Willie Nelson is near 50. So if I want to hear an album, I can ballpark it and then skip ahead one album at a time until I find the one I want to hear. The playlists also have the album year so if I am looking for another album from the same artist, I know which direction to scan. I am thinking of getting an RBQ, which will show the playlist name on the display so I don't have to ballpark it anymore. Now I wish I could turn off the voice prompts because they are gay and just get in the way. Finally, I think I am going to pick up a used iPod 60GB or something, load it up with my entire library, and then print out an index sheet w/ the playlist numbers. That way if I am looking for a specific album I can find the playlist # easily. I'll just leave the iPod locked in the glovebox 24/7, and never worry about it again (maybe update the songs monthly). I really want to keep the aux port open so I can hook a CB or scanner into it in the future. |

I have this setup too but I would like to know one thing. I use XM through the Aux plug as well. Problem is I have to unplug the ipod for the aux to be functional. Did I completly miss something with dip switches or something so that I can toggle through the ipod and aux input WITHOUT disconnecting the ipod?

I don't think the dip switches will make it work for you (as I read what they do in the instructions). I'm surprised both don't show up? But it must be that your deck only allows one aux item? I don't have XM myself in either Jeep.
P.S. Do you have the iPod adapter hooked between the deck and the XM box? That is how the instructions show it, but I don't know if that matters? |

I have a portable XM receiver. I prefer the line in versus FM modulator. I also use the line in for my laptop so I really would prefer to toggle between ipod an aux without disconnecting the ipod.
