Yes, it keeps the iPod charged. Another advantage...

The kit charges the iPod while the car is running or the key is on but not while the vehicle is off.

Great - write up. Got a used adapter from a fellow forum member (thanks) and it works great.

2nd gen ipod touch w/ in dash changer
Hey guys! I read through this whole post and I'm not sure I ever really saw the answer I was looking for.
I just picked up a 16gig 2nd gen. ipod touch and am totally addicted to the darn thing! I would like to use it in my 2005 Rubicon that I upgraded to the 6 disc indash changer. I do NOT want to use the FM Modulator route cause I've never had much luck with that with previous mp3 players and sirius service. Now the back of the RBQ radio DOES have a second port on the back of it... I can provide a picture if someone can post it for me if necessary. There are NO changer controls on the front of the radio. So the big question is what does this smaller port do or control? Has anyone successfuly hooked the ipod up with the RBQ in anyway other than the FM modulator? I know that there are factory auxiliary inputs that plug into a port on the back of the factory deck and allow RCAs to be plugged into that which will allow the ipod to be connected. Any help would be appreciated! |

I have the RBQ (w/ six-changer) deck in my 2006 TJ and the Mopar iPod Kit works fine with it. The iPods I have used with it are the mini, first generation (last) Nano, and first generation iPod Video.
It also works with my 3G iPhone, however for whatever reason it will not charge the iPhone like it does all of my other iPods (it gives me a warning that the iPhone doesn't support that) plus the phone shuts off. I assume this is just the iPhone, but not sure about an iPod Touch? What I would suggest is that you contact Wyckoff at the link below (where I bought mine) and ask them if they know for sure that it will work with the iPod Touch? (And let us know what you find out.) http://www.wyckoffchryslerparts.com/moipinkit.html Ever since I installed the Mopar iPod Kit, I no longer use the six-changer or burn any CD's. |

I can't contact them right this second but will consider doing that later.
But I do have a quick question for you now... you say you have the RBQ w/6disc changer. Am I to assume you mean that you have the indash 6 disc changer and not the actual changer that is installed at the back of the Wrangler? |

Smooze, I have to also say that if your iPod Touch doesn't work (or fully work as may be the case like my 3G iPhone), you might consider picking up a basic Nano (or even a used iPod). My wife keeps in an old iPod mini in her KJ, and I keep her old Nano in my TJ (we've bought a few iPods you might say). We usually just leave them in there and occasionally update or change playlists. I didn't like leaving my Video iPod in there incase my TJ got broken into.
It's so much better then the hole CD thing. Just a thought! |

thanks for the info. aside from the ability to control ipod functions from the stereo what is the benefit to this expensive mopar kit over something like this:
http://www.oemautosound.com/pc-310-91-pie-chry02-aux-jeep-2002-2006-auxiliary-input-adapter.aspx and yes i did see that it does not work with the RBQ radio but if I could find something like it why should i go with the mopar over this? how many pins are there on the auxiliary on the back of the RBQ? I really don't wanna rip the dash apart to find out if you could by chance check your kit documentation and see if it mentions how many pins it was ![]() thanks again! |

Along with that yes the Mopar iPod Kit controls the deck (changes play lists, songs, shows the names, and controls the volume), it also keeps the iPod charged (well the standard iPods, not my 3G iPhone, don't know about the iPod Touch?).
There was also a unit I saw that hooked the iPod into the FM antenna wire (behind the glove box) for less money. It was better then the FM modulator, but didn't control or charge the iPod. Sorry, I don't see anything in the documentation that talks about the number of pins. I know that the connector on the back of the deck was originally meant for Sirius for one, as my wife's deck in her KJ always says Sirius when selecting the iPod, and then it changes to display iPod. If you can find out what the connector is for Sirius, I'm sure it's the same. |

Ok, so i dug my old RBK (single disc radio) that came with the Rubicon out of storage and then held the RBQ (6disc indash changer) up and counted the pins and they are the exact same. Same number of pins and everything.
So my question is still why does this: CHRY02-AUX work with the RBK but not the RBQ? What function is it that doesn't work? Does it not produce sound? UPDATE: I sent an e-mail off to LogJam Electronics asking them my question and this is the response I got: Hi Smooze: There isn't any auxiliary input converter that we know of that will work with the Chrysler RBQ. It isn't a problem with the interfaces, it is a limitation of the factory radio. The RBQ's ability to handle external equipment is severely limited by its very proprietary internal protocol, which is unlike any other Chrysler radio. Technical Support Logjam Electronics So if the RQB is Sirius ready and it gets plugged into that 10 pin port on the back of the radio.... how would the radio know the difference between the Sirius and any other device plugged in ?
