I did have someone point out to me that I can still play the iPod via the audio jack at the top (since the kit has that second connection ability). That way I could even have it play videos and still listen to it via the deck. That might be nice for passengers, although it won't keep the battery charged of course (since it won't be connected via that bottom plug).

I think I may get a Nano to just leave in my TJ for good. I could even mount it behind the glove box to keep it out of view.

Mine says Jeep too! .. Cool little kit by mopar.

At first my ipod said chrysler, but after a few hours a use it started to say jeep.

Hey Grogie and anybody else with input, am I understanding correctly that you cannot view/access all menus from the head unit? You can only only play from playlist on the Head unit? You wouldn't be able to select genres, albums, or artists?

Thanks
Tyler

No, that's not correct. You CAN view songs, and you can view and switch playlists from the deck. You can only see the first eight characters of the name on most decks (at least in the two that I have... in my TJ and KJ). What I did was just to make sure that my playlists have short names so that I can tell them apart. And yes you can also switch to genres, albums, and artists.

See these photos from my TJ:

This says "Toby Keith"...

This says "Whiskey Girl"...

Cool. Thanks. I just wanted to make sure. I saw those pics before, but thought they may have just been artist and song from a playlist. Gotcha now.

Thanks again
Tyler

Mopar Kit Install

For those of you trying to install this behind the instrument panel, I know this is a PITA. I actually installed mine behind the glove box (very easy). I ran the IPOD cable past the stereo, under the center console (tied the cables to the subwoofer cable and up into my locking center console. That way, my IPOD is in the center console where it can be reached, rather than in the glove box.

I'm having problems updating on my IPOD video though. Seems to be taking forever

BTW, mine is an 04 Wrangler Rubicon with an RB1

I'm about to do this myself as well. Did you have enough cable to run it to the center console? Do you have any pics of the hole in the console or how you ran it to there?

Thx

I do recall that the cable is rather long, and you could put the Mopar iPod box somewhere else. It did take more time to take the instrument panel off, but in all, I'd say it took me about an hour for everything. The hardest part was getting the security nut off the back of the deck.

My biggest problem is that I keep forgetting to take my iPod Video to the Jeep, and then when I do, I forget and leave it in there. So I want to just by a Nano to load up, and just leave it in (and in fact mount it behind the glove box so it's out of view).

@CurtP or @TXSplash you use the mopar ipod integration with the RBK right? well I just installed mine too, suprised on how easy it was, but I have a problem, I can't get preset buttons 1 and 2 to work, those are supposed to allow you to browse through playlists and generes right?

well everything else works, preset 3 (play all), preset 4(random), seek and fwd/rew

any ideas?

Thanks

RB1 with OEM Sirius and Ipod kit

Has anyone here installed the Ipod integration kit with the RB1 stereo and OEM Sirius? If so, does the song artist/ title info appear on the HU for Sirius?

No, there is no limit. The "updating" that occurs happens when you make changes to the playlists and plug it back in. Mine usually finishes updating within 20 seconds. I have a Video iPod that has a lot of music on it.

If yours does not finish updating, then you might make sure that your iPod has the latest software update. I haven't had any problems with three iPods I use in my two Jeeps.

this is weird, I can't browse playlists, whenever I press the button, nothing happens, I have about 20 gigs of music, but also have like 2 gigs of pictures, and some videos.

do you have anything similar?

Thanks

I hit the "1" button for playlists, then "seek" to go through the playlists, and then "PTY" to select the playlist.

If that's not working for you, make sure that you have the most current software on your iPod. If you use iTunes, upgrade to iTunes 7, which has an option to update the iPod's software as soon as you plug-in the iPod.

Also, if you know someone else with an iPod, try plugging theirs in. I've tried three iPods and they all work (mini, video, nano).

I do have iTunes 7 and it update the iPod's software, I've been tempted to empty the iPod and start filling it little by little to see if that will help.

I bought 2 ipod integration kits, one that I installed on Jeep Liberty and one that I have not yet installed in my wife's Caravan, I guess I should see if i have the same problem when I install it in the mini van

thanks for the idea of trying with someone, else's iPod, I'll give it a try.

I'll post my results

Thanks for the help and your great write up.

Alex
