Lights dimming, when sub hits.
Yes ive searched, I found some things, they were confusing. I have 4 KCs, a CB, and a 1000watt amp hooked up to the battery. Same battery since we had it, if that means anything. So I ask, better off spending $150 on a 2.0 farad capacitor, or a new battery?

Upgrade your factory ground wires/braids with 4 gauge cable

OEM battery?
If so you need to upgrade your battery to like a Optima Yellow or blue top g34. Also you need to upgrade your OEM wire under the hood.

If you upgrade your battery and your still having problems i would look into using two batteries to keep from ruining your alternator

Capacitor=band-aid...fix it right
1000w amp? Specs would be helpful but I def think this is a wiring upgrade issue. A 1000w max amp should have a minimum of 4 guage wiring for power and ground. If you got your amp kit at wal mart that is usually 8 guage. If you ARE using 4 guage or dare I say it smaller guage then check your grounds (as prev said). If ALL that is in place then you're looking at doing "the big 3" |

I do not know for sure how to wire up the Amp the correct way but as kboyts has stated the grounds are important.
Maybe run a larger gauge wire for the power directly from the battery if not already done and add the same gauge ground wire all the way back to the battery not to the body/frame of the vehicle. Also, the grounds on the electrical system itself may be getting loose or dirty; find the body grounding point and clean up the connections, maybe even add another large gauge wire from that point to the battery's negative terminal. The basic grounding system in the everyday vehicles are poor at best, the only way to setup a good grounding system is to run a large gauge ground wire to two or three point and run all of your grounds to those points. The only exceptions to this is the larger amperage draw components like Amp, large HAM Radios, things like that, they should have their own ground wires the same gauge or larger than the power wires. luck,

i have two jl audio 12's in mine and love having a louder system than imports. makes them look stupid after they talk too much crap. ironically i usually listen to country?!?!
but a capacitor will fix your problem... .5 farad stablizes ~ 500 watts or you can spend hundereds on a dual battery system. |

a CAP will just put a banaid on the problem, you just need to get bigger power and ground cable and connect the amps ground wire to the neg battery post and make sure you do not have any other cables or wires crossing over the amps wires

well larger grade wires will help but a cap will help too. i use to have 1200rms runnin to an orion back in the day and wired it up with 0 gauge, yes thats right 0 haha. the size of ur arm. and the lights would dim bad on big hits. i had a red topper in it. a cap will help but if u want it to go completely away i would go with atleast 4G wire, a cap, possibly a larger alt from like a truck, and a second battery haha. but any one of those upgrades will help u little by little

you dont have a complete system unless you have all bases covered, which means you need a subwoofer to cover the bass section. no speaker in a jeep will ever be able to match the capability of a subwoofer. the only speakers that come close are 6x9's and even they fall short when you need it louder than they can make it. |

Start by upgrading the "big 3."
http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~73496~PN~1~TPN~1 That's your cheapest solution and one that often helps.
