Keep the look of the headunit?

I have an 89 XJ with the 'Acusound by Jensen' audio upgrade, and i just recently upgraded all my speakers to 5.25 Aplines (, which i must say sound FANTASTIC, but the stock headunit just isnt up to the task of providing the sound quaility/clairity/loudness that these speakers are capable of.

I was woundering if i should run an amp to them, or if i should just upgrade the headunit itself? The thing im worried about is people looking in and just stealing the sterio...while if i use an amp all they see is the 15 year old stock headunit. Along with the whole theft issue i REALLY like the look of the stocker, anyone know if i could get some sort of coverplate made for a new headunit using it...if getting the headunit is the way to go?

sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance.
