just for effect sub box question?

I had a box that was downfiring two tens behind the back seat with the amp located under the back seat. I now have an 03 with the flip forward mechanism on the seatback. Anyway do the boxes fit securally behind the seats in the new Jeeps. I dont want to buy a box and with the back closed be able to flip the seat forward and get the box stolen. thanks in advance.

If you mean, does the box prevent the seat from being folded forward? I don't believe so. But ask Ron to be sure. Give him a call; I'm sure he'd be happy to answer that one for ya.

I have one of Ron's sub boxes in a 00 TJ... Not sure about the newer TJ seats but mine does not prevent the seat from folding. Its a little harder to get my hand in to release the latch but its still possible.

I do believe he has different styles of boxes some of which do not allow the seat to fold...but again im not sure how that effects the newer seat designs.

Just PM/Email him...He is very helpful.

I believe what he's asking is if it's easier to pull something out of the back of the Jeep with the new seat folding mechanism which is on the top of the seat back in the 03+ models but is located lower on the latch mechanism for the older TJ's.......the answer is yes.

Somebody could very easily just lift the handle and pull out whatever is in the trunk so you may want to look at some other options for securing the box down.

I guess its a matter of ginches but on the box I just built, when the box is in and the tailgate is closed. The seat will not release and roll forward. If I open the tailgate it will.
From a security perspective not much else to do. They'd have to pry bar the gate open.

I guess it depends on how snugly the box fits up against the tailgate. I know when i had my box behind the seat it sat quite firmly against the tailtage and the seat and I could still fold the seat down without releasing the tailgate.........

Every jeep is different I suppose!

True, mine is snug BUT I think the biggie is, when I shaped it I made the forward facing wall slope exactly down the seat from top to bottom so it basically is a wedge back there (smaller at the top-larger at the bottom)
No way the seat can go forward (won't even release when I try the top handle)
Then I coated it inside and out with the 3M rubberized undercoat. Then I covered it with the carpet.

Ah now I understand what the difference is.

I guess its a good thing I try not to concern myself too much with security in the Jeep =P

What I did was made some L brackets that I used to secure the box to the tub floor and wheel wells at the rear.

Good idea, might make potential thieves (the less dedicated kind) think twice if they can't just lift it right out of the Jeep.......if they want it they'll get it though! Ask me how I know.

Well that's exactly the thing. A real thief that wants a "nice jeep" is going to hook up and drag it into a closed carrier and you're done. less than a minute, bye-bye.

When I was with "another company" we actually hired reformed professional car thieves to educate us on the process.

Professional= If he has a market for your ride, it's gone.
Amateur= Make it less attractive or more difficult, he'll look for an easier mark.
