The ground wires are the black wires coming out one slot next to the yellow/black ones.

Hope this clears it up.

Yeah it does, thanks.

Ooooor you could just pull the fuse behind the glove box. your light will still work when you manually put it on with the turn signal switch thing.

didnt you read the thread? He doesnt like having crap fall out of the glove box, I like this mod, but I couldnt get my fuse box off, there were soem tight wires that wouldnt allow it to move.. I didnt want to get to deep in to it, so i just put it all back together and walked away,,, maybe come summer I will take another shot.

Doesnt some company make a mini-ato type fuse with leads coming off of it (almsot like an add a circuit) that you could put a switch on? That would be a nice, no mess, no tools set up..

...

I also like the idea of just putting a switch on the dome like itself, keeping the idiot alarms functioning.. (i am an idiot afterall)

My plug and play Quadratec kit (click the pic for details) has the switch on the passenger side. I love it because when the doors are off, I can turn the interior light on from either side of the vehicle when I want to grab something out of it.

I just want to say thanks for the write up. I did this last night and it works great. In your write up you stated the wires are yellow and black, my jeep is green so they were yellow and green Could just be mine is an 05 TJ..

on a side note, you can buy empty fuses with leads coming off them, I think they call it a bypass fuse.. You could run an inline fuse with one of thse and attach a switch. Would make install a no brainer.
***THREAD REVIVAL***

I brought this thread back to life as I am thinking about installing the same setup. But my question is, could a bypass fuse such as the one Oman used (below) save you from having to do all the cutting?

The easier the better. And I don't want to pull the #4 fuse as my glovebox is also full of stuff and I have already lost one fuse trying to pull it. This is a much more practical solution and I can take those clamps off those doodads that tell when the door is open (or off)...

Cheers! M2

yes, it will save you time from cutting. you can buy it here...

the purpose of the write up is to not have to spend $25+ on the switch.

That is what I did, and put the switch on the switch panel in the center of the dash next to the lighter and 12v. outlet.

I love that, and I use it too whenever I need the door open with the keys in the ignition.

Same thing for me. If it is really cold, or really rainy, I'll put it back in, but 90% of the time, I just leave it out.

Also, I saw that some of the posters were asking about defeating the int. lights only, but leaving the alrams. I don't understand the purpose of this. If you have the doors off, and the headlights on, the thing would chime all the time wouldn't it?

I don't get it either. If you make it think the doors are closed, the alarm won't come on even if you left your headlight on. I duno how would you make the alarm only sounds for light but not door.

So the question is, pay $25 for the easy solution of a fuse bypass or dedicate the time to pull the fuse box and wire this up myself?

Quite a dilemma...

Thanks for the help!

Cheers! M2

Somebody clear this up for me. What else do you "lose" when you just pull the fuse? If its just the lights on alarm, I can live without that. As long as the dome lights will come on by twisting the light switch.

Right now I'm using some two hole 1/2" emt straps, which slide nicely under the plastic trim, to keep the door switches depressed. Cost? About 25 cents.

Can I just wire a switch to the interior lights? Or is there anyother thing controlled that would stay on I would need to worry about?
get a 12v buzzer, hook positive to head light wire, negitive to an ignition wire, when jeep is running it will send power to both wires, (wont hurt buzzer nor ignition wires) and buzzer wont run, when you turn jeep off ignition wire becomes negitive and power still applied to power from headlights will activate buzzer, problem solved, alot of alarms use this method for them to work,

Cool idea and good write up. I like this a lot better than the Quadratec switch thingy. Seems like a better way of doing it rather than just jambing things into the fuse socket.

One thought, though, for an improvement:

Splice the switch into the ground wire.

That way the switch is protected by the fuse and it should perform the same way by breaking the circuit. It's just that this way you're doing it "down stream" from the fuse rather than upstream. This will protect the switch with the OME fuse block fuse. Plus you'd only need to cut one one (ground) rather than cutting two and trying to stuff them both into one butt connector end.
