Installing a Stereo

2005 Wrangler X. factory stereo and speakers. I looked online at Crutchfield and found several stereos I like. Harness is included. Now a buddy says I might need an adaptor or I could blow the speakers. What all will I need? Crutch usually sends harness with the radio I understand.

to install a simple head unit you will need; head unit, dash kit, harness adapter and possibly a antenna adapter.

if you still have stock speakers i would upgrade them at the same time as they are probably shot. you will want to put 5.25's in the dash and 6.5's in the sound bar/pods

Crutchfield will give you what you need to install. There's little risk of blowng the speakers on just head unit power (roughly 19 watts rms, even factory speakers can handle 25 watts rms).=, unless the speakers were already damaged somehow.

If you buy speakers from crutchfield they will give you any necessary speaker wires as well. So the oem speakers use a white clip to connect tot he factory wiring, they will give you an adapter to connect new speakers. You can get the 5.25" bracket from or ebay.
iPhone app user; excuse typos...thanx.
