Installing aftermarket speakers, amp and subwoofer
On my XJ, the two front speakers have either blown or become disconnected and I want to put more sound in my Jeep as right now only the back two function. WHAT WOULD BE GOOD BRANDS?
I am looking at installing a sub, an amp and a new set of four speakers. I'm going to go the eBay route because I don't have a lot of extra money, so I'll most likely be purchasing used or factory refurbished. What would be your suggestions? I will also need advice on wiring, which type of wires to use and any additional information you might be able to suggest from previous experience. Also, the guy I bought my Jeep from had a kid who put pennies into the CD player. Is there a way to get the CD player open so I could remove the pennies? I've found some good info on "hiding" the sub: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/write-up-97186/ What about wiring do I need to know about mounting a sub? For the speakers in the back, how do I get them out? They are mounted in the ceiling! I can provide photos if needed. My Jeep is a Cherokee Classic. For the Amp, I plan on mounting it under the front passenger seat, running wires from it to the battery and other places it needs to go. What plugs into the amp? Front speakers would be replaced with a new set I guess. For wiring the radio in, I would keep those wires connected, just run the current ones to the new front speakers? I appreciate any help as I am a noob in this topic. I dealt with blown speakers in the front and semi functioning speakers in the back for 4 years in my old Jeep. I want my newer one to have a good setup. Thanks for any help.

Well, first, I think you should establish a comfortable budget. There are a lot of good brands out there, but what's "good" usually also depends on how much you'd like to spend. How loud do you want it? With the sub, are you looking for sound quality and dynamic balance with the rest of the system or are you looking for thump? Also, a lot of essentials like speaker wire and amp wiring kits can be had at Walmart for cheap and still function well. I can't help you with the specifics of installation in an XJ such as your ceiling speaker problem.

you are probablly gonna have to run new wires from the deck to the door speakers. its one of the XJ's minor problems. keep your speakers to 35w RMS of less if you can find them. you will need to run a power wire from the batt to the amp, a remote wire from the deck to the amp, a ground for the amp, and a set of RCA cables from the deck to the amp. the amp install kit will have all the wiring you will need for the amp. also in the same section where you get the amp kit from will be speaker wire, grab a spool. you will also need a larger AWG section of wire for the sub. just hit up a local audio shop for however many feet you need. that should get you started. best thing to do is just go listen to speakers at places like best buy and circuit city and even your local audio shops. write down the ones you like then find them on line.
