Illuminated Cup Holder

Well, finals are going on here at Viginia Tech, and I only have one easy test on the 14th. I was really bored today and I had two blue LEDs lying around, so I decided to get creative with them. I put them on the inside of my cup holder. I know it sounds really cheesy, but it looks really sweet at night. If I put a bottle of water in there, it makes the whole bottle glow blue. It's also cool because I can remember there being times where I'd be driving at night and I'd fumble when trying to put a bottle in the cup holder because it is so dark in wranglers at night.

Here is a picture:

I wired these with the orange wire that powers the lights for the heater controls, so they turn on with all of the gauge lights when I turn my headlights or parking lights on. They were a little bright at first so I put in a 4.7k-Ohm resistor to dim them. This a cool project that is cheap (4 LEDs at Advance are $8 or $9, resistors are $0.99 for five).

thanks for the comments, everybody. I also put two LEDs in the bottom of my rear view mirror. That didn't work out quite as well because they just shine right on the coin tray on the dash. I also had to get some nylon washers, cut them in half, and glue them around the front side of the holes for the LEDs so they wouldn't shine through the windshield. They're still pretty cool though.

I've got some blue LEDs coming in the mail for my gauges. If you want to do this, check out www.superbrightleds.com. Everything should look pretty cool when it's finished because my stereo faceplate glows blue, and the switches I have for lights are blue. Guess what my favorite color is.

guessing you used a drill to make the holes but how did you get it in there to make them?

I was able to fish the LEDs through pretty easily. I used crazy glue to hold them in place. Nothing too sophisticated.

I remember seeing a thread about these a while back but can't seem to find it with the search. Did you already order those? Which ones did you order? How do they go in? Like I said above, I think I found my next mod

While I find the time to get the big stuff done/ fixed, I think about all the little things that need to be done to my jeep- fan belt squeaking, ligh angle adjustments etc ... and wonder, how do people have time for mods like this?
