How do I find a local CB shop - or "good shop in ATL?"

How do I look up a local CB shop? The Yellow Pages show nothing under "CB" or "radio, CB". Is there a directory of shops somewhere? Do I need to call all of the truck stops within 100 miles to find one with a CB shop?

Or does anyone know a good shop on the north side of Atlanta?

Thanks --

-- Jim

Get opinions from members on-line and think about ordering from one of the suggested stores.

WalcottCB use to (may still) supports the Site so think about using them.

http://www.walcottcb.com/

There are others.

Try looking under "Citizens Band Radio" instead of just CB...you may get better results. That is how I found the few local listings in my area for such places.

Thanks for the suggestions. "Citizens Band Radio" finds a couple of shops, none very close to me.

Nnf, I would like to but local, if possible. If I see what I am buying, I can make sure I get all the mounts, connectors, etc. Also, I hope that a local shop could help me tune the setup.

Any other suggestions?

I like that idea too, I like to see what I am buying, but you can't always get a good price break.

Find what you want locally or from your friends and then look on line for what you want.

I would say that I can get at least a 20% savings from shopping around a little.

My latest buy was a set of LogicTech, Skype compatible, Head Phones; $54.00 in the store but $39.00 on line, brand new stuff.

Look around.

I googled Citizens band radio in your area and found this store.

http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&q=citizens+band+radios&near=Suwanee,+GA+30024&r adius=0.0&latlng=34051389,-84071389,2144475850347830024&sa=X&oi=local&ct=auth ority&cd=3

I don't know if they deal in CBs, but they might know who do.

I'll be in Suwanee for a week of training in a couple of weeks. Maybe I can help you set it up. I'm not a pro, but I have set up several radios.

Update:

I found B and B Hobby Shop in Snellville. They had a very limited choice in radios, but a huge selection of antennas - probably over 100 in stock(Wilson, Firestik, a couple of others), cables, mounts, connectors, mics, speakers. I did not buy the radio there, but bought everything else.

I talked with Wayne, the CB tech, and he helped me out a lot. He convinced me to go with a 4' antenna and quick disconnect instead of the 3' antenna I had planned (to fit in the garage). Wayne said that the extra foot makes a huge difference on a Jeep. I bought the antenna cable, a PL259 connector (to put on after I cut the end off the cable and feed it through), a mount to use on the tire bumpstop, the QD, and a 4' Firestik II.

Then he said those words that I wanted to hear: "Come on back when you get it installed and we'll put a meter on it and tune it up. No charge for that." That is the main reason that I was looking for a local shop.

Thanks --

-- Jim

glad you got it working, My meter is in storage in douglasville but easy enough to get to and I'm out there almost every weekend. If you need wiring help or anything let me know.

I have never used a shop since CB's are so cheap if they break I just replace it but tuning an antenna is not hard.

Good to hear it's working out for you. As far as Walcott goes, make sure you check prices, I've seen some pretty steep prices out of them recently.

Wayne at B and B is a good guy. He will also tweak out your CB for 10 bucks (adjust the pot). He has a lot of knowledge about CB radio modifications and he is the guy to talk to when it comes to anything CB related.

Personally though I think B & B is little over priced (I was just there 3 days ago). The same radio's at B and B cost $30 less at the pilot truck stop off 85-N exit 129. In fact, right now the Pilot truck stop has the Galaxy DX959 on sale for $129 (but IMO that radio is too big to mount in a jeep - but that's just me).

That's a good price for that radio! But you're right, it's too big for most folks...

Where were you when I asked if anybody knew a good shop around Atlanta?! Yes, Wayne impressed me. The prices on antennas, mounts, coax, and all the little stuff seemed as good as what I have seen online. The selection of radios was pretty limited, and the prices did look a little high.
