I'm currently running a 102" stainless whip, and it's been working fine(it dose whip around a little bit on the trails though, and I'm wanting to swap back to the 4' firestick that I have in the garage.
anyway, with my current mount the firestick sticks up to far, and I'd have to take it off to pull into the garage(as well as parking garages at work). this wasn't a problem with the whip becaue I could just bend it over and tie it off.
so, what I'm thinking about is building a new mount with a hinged base so that I could just unlatch it, and fold it down. now, for the question, do you think I would have any grounding issues with a setup like this? if so, would an extra ground wire from the movable part of the base, to the frame/body be enough to take care of it?
thanks,
muddy
P.S., I tried just mounting the firestick to the same spring base that I have the whip mounted to(thought I could just bend the spring over and tie it off), but with the firestick on the spring, it blows around a lot on the highway(even more so than the 102" whip). this is why I was thinking of going with the solid/hinged mount.
