Headlight conversion or not??? How many of you still use the standard halogen sealed beam headlight, and how many of you up graded to and H4 headlight conversion?

When i had my 06 rubi i bought the glass head light conversion kit and put a true HID system in. What a huge difference. I removed it when i sold it and its not in my XJ. New housings of course but same bulbs and balasts.

E-code H4 (IPF) with Silverstar Ultra bulbs. I like to be able to buy the bulbs locally.

Well I never really thought about upgrading until i installed some Delta 55w foglights. At night when i have both of them on, i noticed that the foglights are so much brighter and whiter then the jeep headlights. However i also noticed that the previous owner put in regular headlights and not halogens. I was thinkin of just putting in Halogen sealed beams to see if that makes much of a difference from standard incandecent headlights.

Well i decided to give the Sylvania Silverstar H6024ST a try. Mainly because i can get them locally and i don't have to order them in. When i changed out the headlights i put one silverstar in and turned on the headlights to see if i could see a differance. And yes... The old headlight was dim and very yellow colored, the Silverstar was alot brighter and whiter. I think i will like these alot. I put in the pole as standard because its still a sealed beam and a halogen headlight.

But i still want to see what eveyone uses so Please post in the poll.
thanks

I never did the conversion, but put silverstars in. They may not be as bright as the conversion but for $20 a piece they are plenty bright for me, 10x better than the stock bulbs. When I had the stock bulbs I drove around all the time with the fog lights on just so I could see, I haven't had the fog lights on since the switch.

Nothing is as bright and clean as a TRUE HID conversion. Do it and you will never own a jeep or anything else ever again that doesnt have HID head lights. BTW i hear nothing but bad things about the silverstar lights. Everyone i speak to says your lucky to get 1 year out of them. What kind of luck have you guys had? As far as buying bulbs locally, thats all well and good but the HID bulbs last 10 times longer than over the counter bulbs. I doubt you will ever replace them.

problem with HID's are if you dont have the right lenses with the correct cutoff and aim them correctly you will be blinding other drivers. also, if you live somewhere like Va and have yearly inspections you can and will fail because no jeeps came with HID's stock and Va inspection stations do check and will fail you. i have used silverstars on my last 5 cars and have never had a problem. ones in my Frontier have been in there since 06 and could probably use changing since all lights get dimmer over time. put a set in the WJ same year and have only had 1 blow in that time. i couldnt be happier with the SS's and will stick with them. FYI you can usually find good deals on them on ebay if your not in a rush. my first set cost me $33 shipped off there. had i bought them locally it would have been over $50. i am interested in trying the new SS ultras. so this fall i may switch them out.

It's not legal here in NY either. We do have yearly inspections but my guy just gives me a sticker. Anything 95 and older is a joke to pass through. Even 96+ is very easy. I used my 06 rubicon to inspect a ford f350 and a chevy silverado. Passed 1-2-3 no problems. Even if you dont have that option you can always just slap your stock bulbs in for the inspection and go back to the HID. My lights are bright however i did re aim them after my lift so i dont blind other drivers. Never had anyone flash a high beam at me either so i guess they are where they should be. Now im not telling anyone they should go against local laws. Of course thats "wrong" lol

I would love HID's, but that is a different price class to do it right.

You are right about the silverstars, I heard the same thing on longevity. The silverstar ultras were to correct that. I am about 1 1/2 years and fine so far.

I bought my HID kit on ebay for something like $80 plus the housings at about $40 or so. So far so good. Yes more expensive but IMO worth every cent if you can afford it. Hopefully the ultras are a better bulb.

I saw these headlights first on the oman jeep website, and immedately wanted them. took me 2 years but finally go them and holy $#!T they are bright - but with a really sharp cutoff so I don't get people flashing their high beams at me all the time. Plus they look cool. Made by Xciting Lighting - subsidiary of sylvania.
