Hardtop interior light
Hi, for you that have a hardtop. When you open the tailgate at night, it's dark and you can't turn on the main interior lights. Has anyone installed a supplimentary interior light in the rear? I am planning on doing a wide-angle LED maybe one from www.roundeyes.com .
thanks, LT

I picked up one of these at Meijer for like $8, haven't stuck it anywhere yet, but I use it around my Jeep all the time. No wires, just push and have lots of nice, white light.

Thanks, That will be better that the one I was going to have to mount & run a wire down through my hardtop. I did a little searching and found that exact one in the US for $5.99 at http://www.ledlight.com/detail.aspx?ID=246
cheers, LT

My '97 hardtop's rear light just inside behind the rear glass is push-on, push-off. Check yours, it may be too.

Jerry I think I've seen you post this before... and I swear my hard top doesn't have a rear light. I guess it's possible I've just never seen it... anyone else with an LJ have one?

Costco and some other places have those AA powered LED lights...very inexpensive, Costco sells a package of three for like twelve bux...I have them in the trunk of my Camaro, in the toolbox of my pickup, under the hood of everything...In my YJ, I got that roll bar light, VERY BRIGHT, easy to access from everywhere in the interior, including the back door.

Looks like they stopped putting the light in the hardtop. My '03 doesn't have one. I'm using the Sylvania Lite-Dots, and put one above each front seat too.

Yeah, My hardtop has no lights on it. I have the interior lights on my speaker pods, but they come on with the doors or switch. But when I'm at the rear gate at night, I have no light.

Phew I'm not crazy! I guess I should just cowboy up and figure out how to run a switch from the gate to the front to turn on the dome lights, I just fear messing up the electrics after all the gremlins my XJ had...

I was going to hardwire a light at the rear of my hardtop (hadn't thought of wiring a rear switch to control the main lights). Now I just ordered that battery powered LED light in my earlier reply. Like $10 shipped and be done with it.
If you fingure out how to wire up the main interior lights, do a post. If I have my soft top or no top, it would be good to turn on interior lights from the rear. cheers. LT

I'm pretty sure I've read something on here about adding a magnetic switch to that connector hardware on the inside of the tailgate and then wiring it up to one of the front door sensors, but I don't think I've seen a full write-up...
