Ham radio to the rescue

On a very long, rocky climb, nearly 45 degrees friends rear d44 snapped and away went the wheel assembly. We know a scout owner in a local town that might have part. He's a ham. Made a call and sure enough he heard us. Loaded up the new parts and we met him in the remote area. New axle installed and they were back on trail in less than a hour. No cell coverage. Ham worked great.

Exactly the reason most of the guys I wheel with switched to HAM.

I had an inline rail mounted fuel pump crap out on me outside town and away from cell coverage. Called a HAM buddy on the local repeater and he picked up a spare I had and delivered it out to me. Was driving back down the road in just over an hour.

Sheared off the flange nice and clean. This why I long ago went with a full floating rear axle.
