H.I.D. off road lamps
Does anybody run these type of off road lights, and are they worth the extra sweat blood and tears to make the dough to buy a few?

lol yeah this thread will be moved first of all, and yeah the lights are pretty sweet. I've enjoyed them for half a year or so now. They reaaaally brighten up the road and they are kind've like a conversational piece for your jeep haha. If you didn't go the HID route, I highly suggest either Lightforce auxiliary lights or the HPF conversion a lot of others do on this forum. They are all great options. I got the HID's at www.bright-headlights.com, the guy is great to work with, especially for me considering he's only 20 mins from my house! Cost was $698. Good luck, Oman has some great pics of the install, it was very simple.

I was thinking more on the roof basket type application... spots and floods and such. I really don't want them at ground level, more for off road only applications.
I search the electrical section, couldn't find anything directly related to off road lights in HID. Yes I agree that the Lightforce brand of lighting is very inticing, but I may have issues of clearance with anything over 5" tall. I would like to be able to fit in my garage for those topless days of spring summer and fall here in the republik of Kalif. Time will tell though, as Iam fishing for info and experiance. Maynster |

You should first get HID headlights before getting HID offroad lights - you may not even want the offroad lights after installing HID headlights. The light output is incredible. As for offroad lights the lightforce 240 HID lights look great and the HID ballast is concealed within the light. At 9" they are too big to be practical offroad though and I doubt they would last unless you found a great way to protect them. I am not sure of the cost but I am sure they are expensive.

They cost in the neighborhood of $1,900.00. Or first born children, which ever is first. I guess the attraction to these is the small amount of amprage they draw.
I suppose a daylighter would hurt less if it were snagged by a tree. Maynster |

![]() I'm here ![]() As the others have said, do the headlights before HID aux lights. It's far more bang for buck! Not only are they cheaper than any decent HID auxiliary light I know of (Hella, PIAA and of course Lightforce), they are also DOT compliant for on-road use, so you get HID all the time, not just off road. If you still want more after that, Lightforce HID's will make it daylight nearly 2 km away I believe ![]() The pricing on the Lightforce HID's usually works out to about 1,600 for the pair as opposed to 700 for both Xe7 HID units from www.brightheadlights-hid.com - I got mine direct from the manufacturer but they've since put the price up on their page, www.xsighting.com Xsigthing is a aftermarket division of Valeo Sylvania, who are the OEM suppliers for a lot of Daimler Chrysler's vehicles. The internals of the Jeep HID kit are shared with the current Dodge Viper. Check out the following links for more info and pics. ![]() ![]() INSTALL BRIEF REVIEW PICTURE GALLERY Yes they do look a little wierd at first, but when you look at the vehicle as a whole you don't notice them that much, until of course you turn them on. ![]() They are worth the extra coin and once you try them you won't want to go back! If for whatever reason you REALLY do, a lot of the time you get comments like "Would love to have them but that's too much money for me" or "no way I'd have that, it looks like it's staring at me" which I take to be the same thing with a cover story My point is, if you had to, you could sell them for a minimal loss, but I really doubt you will want to part with them. Some people take longer to adjust to the appearance, but I've never heard of anyone unhappy with the performance. The fact that they fit the H1 and the H2 and a bunch of other vehicles means they get to sell more units, therefore the price comes down... it really is one of the cheapest DOT compliant bi-function (high and low) kits out there. Oh, and you'll sometimes see kits that are HID low beam only with the claim "you won't need high beam with these" - it's rubbish. Even though they are insanely bright, there are times when you want high beam (especially in unlit hills with no oncoming vehicles) and it does make a difference. As for woodland exploration... They're in the place of the stock lamps with a plastic shield protecting the important lens, and a very large metal shield around everything else. They're not sticking out like any auxiliary light, and they're stronger than stock. For off road vibrations, HID has no filament to burn out, so they should last a lot longer than the equivalent value of Silverstar bulbs, which some people barely get 6 months out of ![]() |

Oh sorry for the confusion y'all, I just meant the Lightforce aux as a optional light source, i forgot they even made an HID aux light
Def go w/ the headlights before the aux HID's. I was just providing alternative ideas! and yeah, you can have them powder coated
