First time CB user... Teach me how to use it please!
Yes CB's in this part of the world is not that common. And we have just started using CB's in our jeep club.
Can someone please tell me when and how do I use the RF gain control? And the squilch knob???
I have turned them up and down the other day and I know what those two knobs do but how often do I need to set them? Should I keep turning them as I'm talking on the CB or should I just set them to a position and just leave them there all the time???
I'm not even sure that I'm asking the right questions

the RF Gain knob is used when you want to receive transmissions that are further away. If you want to ignore the traffic that's further away and only hear the conversations close to you, turn the RF Gain down. This will effectively cut out the communications from further away. Consequently, if you want to hear a conversation where the transmitter is far away, you can turn the RF Gain all the way up to receive in full as it were.
The Squelch knob is used to cut out the dead space. Otherwise, you would hear a bunch of white noise. You will find yourself adjusting both of these at any given time to maximize the communication between you and your jeeping buddies.

Nope you won't fry your radio. Make sure you "Tune" your radio to your antenna though, you will need a SWR meter for that, unless there is one built into your CB.

You may want to clarify that a bit.

I'm no English major, but I think that qualifies as an incomplete sentence. How about filling in the rest of it and we can try and provide you an answer.

You almost certainly need your antenna tuned. If you are just setting up your system and your antenna has not been tuned the chances that it is set up most effectively are very, very small.

Simple answer. You always need to use one. Even if the antenna came perfectly tuned, you still need to hook the meter to it to make sure. If you don't know what your SWR read is you need the meter.,
