factory subwoofer replacement...

Does anyone have a suggestion for a speaker to replace the factory subwoofer in the center console?

Mine was blown when i purchased my jeep and I pulled it out and reglued the surround but it's come apart again.

I was just gonna replace it with a 6.5 inch speaker from any autoparts store but it's a dual voice coil and i wasn't sure how to wire it up since all the cheapos i've seen are single.

I'd find a compatible 8" sub and do some trimming of the stock console. I'm pretty sure it works well someone did tell me about it.

I put in a JL 6W0 and a JL A1200 amp on it and love it. The only thing that I had to do was use a die grinder and cut out the plastic inside the factory enclosure. The JL is a good bit deeper than the stock speaker but after trimming out the box it fit fine. If you go this route I would suggest putting some spacers on the top screws that hold the speaker in so the console will be pushed away from the sub. I didn't at first but once the sub surround "broke in" the speaker would hit the console at the top and rattle. It sounds much better than I was expecting and It doesn't take up any extra space except for where the amp is and I just put it under the rear seat.

I installed the JL 6WO in mine also. Had to grind out space for the larger magnet and use an amp. You can buy a new enclosure for 299.00. (I think) Pretty expensive for a paper woofer but much easier to deal with and no amp to install.

Hmm, it sure does. You're right though, factory size is 6 or 6.5 or something like that. If i had to do it all over again, I think I would just get that enclosure with the sub and psudo amp included. I hate having to worry about my amp when my top is off.
