external speaker?

I have a Maxon MCB30. They sell them at wal-mart so i dont think they are the best quality radios out there. It says it has a spot for an external speaker but where do i get one? I found the plug it goes into but is it just a regular jack like for headphones? Anyone know where to get a speaker to plug into it so i can actually hear other people on the trail as i listen to some tunes too?

Maxon make decent Ham Radios so I would think the CB are OK too.
An external speaker can be purchased from any Radio Shop or "Choke" Rat Shack.
External Speakers sound different to each person; you may like the sound of one but not the other. So, when selecting the speaker listen to it, if the shop allows you to take to your vehicle plug it in and listen, if it sounds good then go with it. If the shop doesn't let you take it and try it out then make sure you can return if it isn't what you want.

Look for some kind of noise suppression built into the speaker it helps decrease the noise. Cobra and other manufacturers make speakers that have switchable noise suppression.

There used to be a web site called "Express Radio" that sold all kinds of radio stuff, export radio, CBs, and accessories. Search the web and see if they are still around, if for nothing else you can see what is there.

Good Luck,

The Edge, good site...
The site has external speakers also, as well as the PA horns.

Quan,
Depending on what you want these two items on that site aren't too bad either. Not to say you should get these but something like these w/noise canceling is good. The talk back feature is not required on most CBs, (only the Export Versions... $$$).

You might want to try a truck stop, they have all kinds of external speakers and if you don't like it most will allow you to return them. I have the kind that use's suction cup's to stick to your window.

I looked at this site, http://www.valcoelectronics.com/, and found a number of speakers.
You need to pick one that looks the way you want it to and mounts in your vehicle where and how you want it.

Just get some sort of noise suspression, either built-in or on a switch.

hey guys

got my PA speaker in the mail yesterday, put it in tonight.

the only thing i can use to describe my feelings about it is:

its friggin great, i was playing gypsy kings over the pa and had my friends and other people laughing.

if your CB has the option, i'd strongly recommend looking into getting one.

cheers
