Everything goes to default on engine start up.

Hi ya'all, been a while since I posted, mainly because I ain't had any problems..hahahaha. My car is a 2001 WJ 3.1 turbo diesel. Right now I need your expert advice again. For the last month or so when I start my engine strange things happen, everything is fine when I turn on the ignition, as it was when I last turned off the motor, the overhead display settings, the CD player in the same mode etc, but when I start the engine it all goes back to default, the CD player needs to be configured, the overhead display goes back to default and needs to be configured, also the hazard lights flash a couple of times as well as almost every light on the instrument display, after that all is okay, car runs fine and everything works fine until the next engine start up, wierd no? It is not a major problem but it is a nuisance. I have checked all the obvious connections, the battery earth (ground) and the battery shows 12 volts minimum right through to the earth srap on the body. Anyone got any ideas..?

Sounds like an ignition switch problem removing 12v from those 'keep alive' memory circuits when it is turned to Start.

When you have a choice, buy American made.

Also check the voltage at the battery when cranking the motor over. Could be enough of a voltage drop to reset the electronics same as if the battery was disconnected.

You may have a point there, on start up it doesn't seem to spin over as fast as it used to before this problem started. What voltage should it be at the battery on start up..? Batteries here always come with a two year guarantee and always seem to last exactly two years and one month (because of the heat here I suppose, I'm in southern Spain, 40 to 45 degrees is the norm) hahahaha, seriously.
