Electronic Throttle Control

I am a little concerned because I got into my 2008 Jeep Liberty this morning and the Electronic Throttle Control warning light came on as well as the tire pressure (which didn't concern me because this often happens when there is a drastic change in the weather) as well as the Electronic Stability Program/Traction Control System Indicator Light. There were no warning signs or issues leading up to this. I went online and found that there were several write ups with similar issues. I bought the vehicle used so I'm not even sure what my options are... any advice? I can't afford a ton of repairs on this vehicle, that's why I traded my old vehicle in for this one. HELP!!

Just throwing this out there:
How's your battery? You'd be amazed at the different trouble codes (DTC) that are set after a jump start.

You don't think you Liberty was flood damaged (before you bought it) do you?

I wouldn't mess with this one. Get it flat decked into a repair shop and have them look at it. I hate fly by wire throttles in vehicles now...a buddy of mine was sitting at a traffic light and the ECM decided to go haywire and went WOT. He was lucky to be able to hold it back with the brakes and got it shut down before it went out into traffic.

Yes, get it checked out IMMEDIATELY. The perfect series of events might be slim to none to cause your electronic throttle control to go haywire, but it happens more often than it should..

All about that unibody life.

Thought I would post here instead of a new thread but my check engine, ETC, and Service 4WD lights all came on. I took it in and they said it was running hot and seemed to be leaking antifreeze. Could that be causing all the lights to come on or are there possibly other problems as well?

The check engine is definitely from the leaking fluid.

What did you run over or hit?? The three at the same time is odd.

Don't know. I drove 350 miles and no light, then it sat for about 24 hours and went I started back up they were all on. Ended up having the water pump and serp belt replaced. I'm out of town so not much of an option other than driving home with a couple gallons of coolant to add.

You could check (load test) your battery and clean terminals and wires. Check wiring and connections to the TPS and wiring to the transmission.

I just had a similar issue. I was running errands today and the 1st two were fine. When leaving the grocery store, I went to start my 2012 Liberty Sport when the dash lit up and went dark. I tried jumping it off with no luck. All I got was a clicking noise from the starter. Finally got it jumped off and my indicators for the Electronic Throttle Control and Electronic Stability Control were lit. I had no power going to the accelerator. I was able to make it to the auto parts store when it completely shut off again. I replace the battery and now it starts with no problem, but still having issues with the ETC and ESC. It's at the mechanic now, waiting on them to open in the morning. I'll let you know what they say.

I have a 2009 Jeep Liberty with approximately 136K miles and the ETC, MIL, and Service 4 wheel drive lights have all been coming on and off. The ETC and 4WD will go off after restart, the MIL takes a few cycles. It spent the week at the mechanic, back and forth to dealer. Picked up today, told it should be good, put gas in it, all 3 lights were back on. Reading the posts from people this seems to be a common occurrence that no one knows how to fix, mechanic or dealer. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hello JeepLiberty091,

Sorry to hear about your Liberty. Have you taken your vehicle to another FCA certified dealership, a second opinion could help? If you would like me to look into this further, please private message me your VIN and contact information.

I have a 2007 Jeep Cherokee 2.7 CRD. I've owned it for about 5 years. Lately the ETC light keeps coming on when the engine is cold or on first start up. I've been told it could be a host of problems and to start with the cheapest. I've found that if you turn the engine off when it has reached operating temperature the ETC light does not come back on. I have just replaced the bttery today as I had that checked and it was low charge, the alternator has been checked and is charging the battery. Alas, the ETC light is still coming on, anyone got any ideas ?
