Electrical gurus and foglight gurus...
I bought a TJ and previous owner put on Hella 500 foglights. He installed a crappy switch near the steering wheel. I went and bought the factory fogllight switch and found that the connection is there behind the dash. What I need to know... should I just splice the wiring or does someone know where the factory wiring goes and can I hook them up to that for safety purposes and neatness?
Thanx, Marc

if the factory wiring is there, you may have luck finding two wiring harnesses out by the bumper ends.
i'd tie into one of those to trigger the relay in the existing kit. i would not use the OEM wiring direct to the lights though

For the Hellas I have 3 plugs... one is green (ground), red (power to battery) and 2 black wires that go into one (connects to lights).... which of the factory wires do I tap these into? I think I saw green on the factory connector so I guess that would be ground.... any ideas on the others?
Thanx, Marc

if i remember correct, off the hella relay you should have the green wire which is the trigger, the thick red which goes to the battery, and the twin blacks which go to the lights, right?
In that case, the green wire goes to the + on the existing harness.

thought you were talking about the hella lights with the thick red and twin black... didn't know you were talking about the factory.... and this comment "get a test light to see which one is the positive on the factory harness.
" this is why I am writing to see if anyone knows because I am not a wiring/test light guy.... I probably could figure it out with enough time but wanted to see if anyone knew on here. Marc

someone on here might know
what are the two colors on the factory harness? On the cherokees its green and black, green is the +, black is the ground. Test lights are easy though. You clip the end to something grounded like a bolt or the frame, and you stab the pointy end into the wire that you think is positive, and if it is, and theres power, the light turns on.

Thx I guess I will go by a test light and poke around.... any ideas where the other two wires from the hellas go? the black and red? I just went down stairs and looked at where the green wire went from the Hellas and it goes through the firewall and bolts to the underside of the hood for what looks like a ground? I am getting confused.....
Can anyone just tell me splice green to "blank", red to "blank" and blacks to "blank".... Sorry I need the wiring for dummies version. Marc
