Dual battery questions...

I am struggling to decide if I need/want a dual battery system for my 04 TJ. I use the winch occasionally, but my main need would be for jump starting the jeep from the second battery. It sits outside for two or three days at a time due to my job and it would be nice to know I have a back up to get home during some cold winter night. I was looking at the Wrangler NW set up with the Odyssey batteries vs a regular Optima battery set up. Has anyone had any experience with the Odyssey to compare it to the Optima yellow top? Thanks for any help, Joe

if you need to jump start your jeep because it sits for 2 or 3 days you have a problem somewhere and need to find it. if thats all your worried about there are products out there that shut down power when the batt hits a certain voltage so you can still start the vech. first find the drain and fix it then worry about a dual batt setup.

I don't have a problem yet. I guess I was just planning ahead for when the original battery shells out and I was just trying to decide if I really needed a double battery system mostly as a back up for winter starting or just put in an Optima and forget it. I use the Warn winch every now and then, but not that often. It's mostly for a back up in the sometimes very cold Iowa winter.

I have a blue top Exide Orbital battery and I drive my rig honestly once a month or less and it starts every time no problem. I let the rig sit for over 3 months without turning the key and it fired right up. But the wrangler NW setup is a very good setup.

I've never had the need for dual batteries in my TJ, even though my winch gets used quite a bit. This is even after the last time I had to winch myself off the trail and I couldn't start the engine. A good heavy-duty starting/deep cycle battery is all you need if you just use a little common sense when winching. Optima's Blue Top and Yellow Top batteries are fine, as is the battery SirGCal recommends above.
