actually there are hacks out there to bypass the safety features on the radio, that work . I can send them to you if you PM me. Of course they are for off road use only and the driver should never watch the video when the vehicle is moving.

I'm not sure if this will work or not, but I've heard that if you pull the e-brake up one notch, just enough to trigger the computer to think you are "parked" but not enough to actually engage the e-brake, you should be able to watch movies while you are moving without hacking anything. But like he said, don't use it on road; I'm pretty sure that is illegal, not to mention very unsafe if the driver gets distracted.

The safety also prevents you from entering an address or dialing the phone with the built in keypad, or the passenger from doing this as well

same here, they locked it down a bit too much.

just the parking brake does not work, it knows you are moving, there is another wire that has to be moved and grounded to get it to bypass, none of it requires opening the unit though.

grounding the parking brake wire is simple as putting a connector on the end and mounting it to something metal... correct?

also contacted a Local Custom audio installer about this install a din 1/2 to a double din.

That is alot of labor, but more than happy to talk about it. Although if he cut the core support in that dash, that is bad!!!

Come see us 8060 Reading rd. behing National City Bank.
Thanks,
Rick 821-4142 when i asked him if he could do it

Although of course I give you all this link knowing that you would never dare watch a DVD while driving on the interstate. Dont be stupid! This is so you can change nav and phone settings!! you can get pulled over and ticketed if you have a front screen that is playing back a DVD...

Well if what I cut out is structural we are all in trouble, it was just plastic and really only appeared to be there to provide support and fastener location for the top edge of the fascia. I also served to attach the antenna lead in the hole. I doubt I compromised anything truely structural or safety related.

It would probably no longer support a factory radio on its own but if I put the factory back in I would just make a support for the back edge to keep it straight, would only go back to factory now to sell it anyway.

I was at bestbuy today and I asked if it could be done. They said no matter how much I tried, I would never get it to work... ahahaha I just laughed. I also asked them if they were aware that the model up from their F700BT, the F900BT was being sold on Amazon.com for $50 less and it offered DVD playback. The look on his face was priceless. He finally caught his tongue and said if he consulted the master technician they could order one and offer it for a similar price, that was the right answer I was looking for. . Good job tsconver, I cant wait to do this when I get my WJ

Looks good congrats. I feel your pain. I did a similar install on my ZJ. Us ZJ people have tons of room to work with if we remove the AC vents

very sleek and nice work on the custom job, but how do you fare without having those center vents? I always feel like those are giving me the most heat/a.c. Also, if you take them out, can you block the vents off so it gives more airflow to the others?

sorry about the thread resurrection, but the redwood in the overland I want to get has inspired me to ask this question: has anybody considered alternatives to the fiberglassing? What if we were to take a quality slab of wood, trace the fascia, cut it out, and then use a router/dremmel/ chisels, you name it, to get the fine curves and lines. Plus you can make it a nice tight custom fit around the doubledin... shouldnt be that hard considering the unit has right angles... I think with the proper materials and knowledge it can be done fairly easy.

Also btw I'd be willing to pay 30-50 bucks to have this done for me once/ if I ever get a WJ (ship fascia in mail etc) so somebody should throw that offer out there who feels confident doing these.

Also, to admins, I think this thread should get a spot somewhere in the FAQ's, I bet there are many people who would enjoy knowing how to install a double din audio system in their WJ, I sure as heck would
