Does anyone know how to remove/replace the in dash speakers on a TJ Wangler ?

Hi,
I'd like to buy 4 5.25 Polk Audio speakers to update the sound bar and dash speakers.
it doesn't appear easy to replace the Dash speakers. Have any of you done this ? found a nice head unit, 50W per channel.. 4 channels plus line out to a subwoofe amp.
I'm planning on installing a small 6" subwoofer.. but first I need to pull off the Polk Audio Speaker upgrade. The sound bar looks like a piece of cake, I'm gonna use some acoustic paper to improve the sound quality in there. But man.. the dash looks tough.
Also can I leave the dash tweeters installed ? Is there a cossover somewhere in the dash ?

I'm confused as your profile says a 2010 TJ, but TJs stopped in 06. 2010 is the JK model.

For a TJ: 5.25 fits in the rears, no problem. For the front you need to make/buy on ebay a bracket to fit. The original is a 4x6 space. numerous people have replaced their crappy dash speakers with nicer 5.25s

Your JK (2007 and newer are JK, not TJ) is new enough that I haven't done speakers in one but if it's like the earlier TJ, it's a piece of cake to swap the front speakers. Look to see if there is a screw on the side next to where the front speakers are, the door needs to be open to see if it is present. If that screw is there like the TJ uses, remove it and then the grill that covers the speaker can be pulled off. The TJ's grill is held in place by snap-in steel clips once that side screw is gone, hopefully the JK is similar.

The Polks will sound good, they are a more sensitive speaker than usual so they don't need as much power to drive them to make them sound good. And a big welcome to JF.

And while the factory installs 5.25" round speakers in the rear sound bar, 6.25" speakers drop into the same opening without any modifications needed. That sounds wrong I know but it's true. At least that is true for older TJs, no telling how the JK's rear speakers are installed but it wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't true for the JK too.

I took the side panel off the dash when I got home!

Thanks for the tip! The speakers are mounted on a bracket with two screws. Now I need to save up.

You're going to remove the glovebox to gain access to the passenger and the similar panel under the steering column to access the driver. I'm not in the habit of sending our biz elsewhere but there are good pics at JK-forum.com

My 2010 JKL Rubicon Stereo installation begins...

My recommendation would be to get your speakers from crutchfield.com they will send you install instructions with your purchase to guide you through how to get at the speakers.

speaker upgade

Do you think the polk 5.25" speakers will wok fine with the stock RES stereo ? I'm going to do the upgrade in steps, first the dash speakers, next the soundbar. I noticed the 2010 soundbar has 4 extra speaker holes.. it appears fo midrange and tweeter.

The rule with speakers running on head unit power without an amp is usually 35 watts RMS...basic polks fall into this range and they are a favored brand amongst members here. I would have to know your model number to know for sure.

As gily said, not all polks will be the same. The ones in my pic are the Momo series which are made for much higher power and sound really hollow on head units alone. the dB series from polk is made for lower power ranges and sound real good.
