Distributorless system swap? Is it needed?

I just currently swapped the engine out of my 2000 cherokee sport for a engine that came from a 98 XJ.

What procedure needs to be done to swap out the distributor from the engine for the cam position sensor for the distributor-LESS system?

I have read that the #1 cylinder must be at TDC and the CPS should drop right in place of the distributor, what steps do I need to take to position the #1 cylinder to TDC? I have read that you just need to align the marks on the harmonic balancer to a "mark" located on the timing cover? is this the way to TDC? I also have read something about the cam position sensor has to drop down into the oil pump and some method about using a tooth pick?

The connectors are the same for the cps sensor and the distributor, how come I can't just plug the connectors up to the distributor? Would it work or is the ECU programmed to send a signal to the connector that the coil rail plugs into?

Thanks!

The distributor system will not work with your wiring harness nor computer. The 98 motor will be missing the mounts for the coil rail also, so you'll have to find a way to mount it. Most people use a couple pieces of metal and secure them under a couple valve cover bolts.

Good luck

Sent from my phone where correct grammar is difficult.

Thanks, in the process of swapping it out now,and yea that's what I had planned on doing. As for the single down pipe header issue, I had a complete exhaust out a 98, took the mid pipe off of it and just have to get one of the radii bent slightly to not rub against the corner of the oil pan.
