Custom Center Console 10" Sub Enclosure Build

Well, since I couldnt really find too many that had done it, decided to take a stab at it myself. Not 100% finished but will be by the weekend: (copied from our local forum):

Started the sub enclosure. The idea is to follow the design the guy had on JF then modify it to have the sub stick out to the rear. To me it looks better and adds valuable air space for the 10." So I built the enclose out of cardboard, left the rear open (it's pretty cool how you can mate the round sub face to the square opening... more to come) and started glassing the enclosure. Then I had an epiphiry (<--- Office reference, who gets it?). Working with the fiberglass fabric sucks my ***. Its a huge mess and just a pain in general. The custom car audiophiles use fleece instead for the custom enclosures and that was my intent anyway in the rear. So, I stopped with the fabric crap and started wrapping the enclosure in fleece. Drowned in it resin and now Im waiting for it to dry. I need to run back to lowes for more resin and brushes anyway. So, done for tonight. It doesnt look like much but itll come together...

Started with the bondo... Ugh.

Done bondo-ing... With the humidity and thickness of the coating it should be ready to sand by September.

Test fit and test run. Sounds eleventy million times better. Also gives the false effect of more bass since its so close to the seats. Still needs a bit more poly fill inside but so far so good.

Forgot to mention that isnt even close to what it'll look like at the end. I'm either going to glass or carpet it to the current center console to make it look like one smooth component.

For reference I've got a kicker 400w mono amp pushing it. It's running at 2ohms.

Thanks. Yup pretty loud! Haven't had a chance to drive yet but my old sub was kinda audible while driving an this is MUCH louder and much clearer. So I imagine it'll be fine.

Great job! They used to make an 8" one for yj like that design...glad to see someone made one for tj, can you still move the seats? You should look for the q forms competition info...each year they used to select 3 user designs to be mass manufactured...not sure they still do or not.

Hmmm... thats interesting

Yeah, I got the idea from the YJ console. And yes, can still move the seats just fine. that was a concern when I was designing it, that and pushing the sub back too far. I didnt want to encroach on the backseat too much. Im really pushing to have this thing finished and polished up by this weekend.

More progress. It was tricky mating the existing console to the enclose. It's still not even close to being done but it's coming along:
